Can I teach a horse to fish?
Who would concoct such a thing?
This is the story of an optimistic fly fisherman and cowgirl that believes she can teach horses to fish. I'm raising funds for a documentary that will film me creating a program to train horses to stand in a stream and let disabled people fish without leaving the saddle. You'll be able to retrieve that rainbow trout to a net on a trusty, rock solid steed. (I can't guarantee the size!) Fly fishing and riding a horse are my two places of healing. And I want to create that experience for others. And yes, I have done it before off my amazing horse on a stream in Colorado!
I originally started this as a very personal project but, during the filming of the intro video, I spoke with a man who was in a wheelchair and couldn't get to the water anymore. He missed fishing as he used to and really wanted to know if I could do this. And as can you hear in the first part of the video, I discovered that the real FOCUS is helping the disabled, including veterans, illness survivors and children use a horse as a mobile tool to bush whack to a remote stream, stand in a lake, or climb a mountain to get to where the real fish are.
So, join me...in watching the kicks, (hopefully not the bucks), the breakthroughs and breakdowns, the casts, splashes, and the magical relationship that develops between a person and a horse. Chuckle with me when even the horse can't believe I keep getting my line in the trees, or feel the deep connection when he understands what I'm asking and we are in sync.
This dream began with me sitting by a river healing and will end with a trained horse that will let the disabled fish and heal.
I can't retire my saddle and set down my rod until I try.
What will your support do?
I’m proud of the progress to date, but now the work begins. Creating the videos has been amazing, but time to bring in the professionals.
Your generous contributions will help cover help with horse training, development of new gear to facilitate staying stable on the horse, a crew, an exhausted director, and getting the film out in the world. Maybe even a truck that will actually start and pull my trailer to remote locations. I have confidence that this idea will reach so many different kinds of people. I believe everyone knows a person that would benefit from this and I'm hoping you'll value the idea enough to make it happen.
I have thought hard how I can reward you for all your generosity and donations. My prizes are unique, tailored to fisherman and horse riders alike. The top donation prize is time with me in some of the most beautiful water and back country in Colorado on your own horse.
If this story could help someone you know, or makes you wonder if I can do this, please donate and give me feedback at firstname.lastname@example.org. As social media plays such a part in our world now, please spread this campaign around to all your friends and contacts.
