NEW UPDATE (March 5, 2013):
We had our first shoot date on February 26th. There are some raw stills in the gallery. Most of is is lovely and amazing, but there are some glaring (pardon the pun) lighting issues that are going to be costly to fix in post. Anything that helps my post costs would be very much appreciated. It means a better end product, and a happier director/producer.
UPDATE:
We are now 100% funded as of six days into the campaign. I am so beyond grateful I don't even have words for it.
If you're coming across this for the first time and still want to support, please do! More funding means higher production values all around.
Additional funding from this will go in part towards additional festival entries for this film and for future projects from Laughing Cat Productions. I would also love to be able to pay my talent - if we hit $1000, I can give them a reasonable honorarium and provide craft.
If we double our goal on this campaign ($1500 or more), I will also be making a $250 donation to an LGBTQ charity in all of your names.
About Me:
Hi, I'm Emily! Nice to 'meet' you. I am an emerging Canadian performer and filmmaker.
I consider myself an actorvist (though I didn't coin the term), out to make the world a kinder, gentler place through social commentary implemented through various forms of media. Callgirl is the first of three projects I have planned for this year along that vein. Standing up for happiness and equality for everyone when it comes to sex, gender and how and who we love is something very important to me. So is the positive acceptance of bodies of all shapes and sizes - I believe that there is more to 'beautiful' than what mainstream media would like us to buy.
For some of my past film work, you can find me on IMDB
I've written, directed, and produced one other short a few years back, called Complex. You can view it here: Complex
I was also one of the main cast members of another successful IndieGoGo campaign ZED.TO
Feel free to stalk (gently!) with reckless abandon. ;)
O R'lyeh?
Why "Callgirl of Cthulhu"?
Aside from the fun wordplay and cultural reference, my live-action comedy short presents the idea of acceptance and unconventional relationships through a unique, fun, and accessible story.
My film leads are Becky Shrimpton and Andy Malone - two devastatingly hilarious and all around awesome human beings. (And I'm hoping to have a video from them soon!)
We need funding to help with:
- Unique wardrobe for a lead character (est $150)
- Post-production costs: editing, scoring and sound mixing ($350)
- Marketing and distribution: (est. $250).
I already have a professional camera and sound equipment that I've previously purchased, and thanks to some wonderful friends have managed to secure the filming locations for a reasonable cost. To make this film the best it can be in terms of quality and reach, I need help with these very important areas! I am asking for approximately half the total funding needed for this project - the rest I am funding from my own pocket, unless we surpass our goal.
EDIT: We are looking at a new goal of $1000 for the film - let's keep up the momentum! This will allow me to pay my actors and provide craft services for them.
No money? No problem!
Seriously, thanks for checking my project out. If you can't donate but like what you see, we would appreciate you spreading the word about our project. Maybe you have a rich uncle. You know, the one that lives in the eerie house in the middle of nowhere that... nevermind.
