Brown Sugar's Fourth Studio Album!

Brown Sugar is Northwestern University's premiere co-ed South Asian interest A Cappella group.

Short Summary

Brown Sugar A Cappella was founded at Northwestern University in 1999 as the world's first South Asian co-ed a cappella group by two students who wished to express their South Asian roots through music. Since the group's founding, Brown Sugar has gone on to showcase nationally from Bhangra in the Burgh in Pittsburgh to performances in St. Louis and Ann Arbor as well as participate and receive accolades at national competitions. In 2010 and 2011, Brown Sugar was awarded First Place at Gathe Raho, the nation's largest South Asian a cappella competition. In addition to live performances, the group has released three studio albums – Pehla NashaRhythm Room, and Cubed – and is currently working on a fourth album, which will hopefully be released in spring 2013.

What We Need & What You Get

The album-making endeavor is costly, and in order to achieve our goal of releasing a new album in the spring of 2013, we need to raise $4,000 to finance the rest of our recording and production efforts. In exchange for your support, we have lined up some exciting perks that we think you'll really enjoy - from an early release of one of our favorite songs off the new album (a mix of Shukran Allah/Halo) to having us arrange a song of your choice and sing it for you!

We would be honored and extremely grateful for any support you can provide us. With your help – our friends, family, and fans – we will will finally be able to complete a four-year-long recording effort, and have the ability to share our music with the world.

Please make a pledge to support us with any amount. You are an integral element of our success, and we can't accomplish this without you!

As an added bonus, no matter how much you choose to contribute, we will put up a personalized thank you shout-out on our Facebook and Twitter!

Our Dream

Creating and sharing our music, a fusion of songs that pay tribute to both South Asian and Western traditions of music, is an important venture for all of us. For fourteen years we have shared our music through live performances and three other albums; now we would like to release a fourth. It is our dream to share our music with as many people as we can reach.

This album will showcase the voices and arrangements of six generations of Brown Sugar members, from students who graduated in 2010 to students who will graduate in 2016, – capturing their timeless talent and passion for music.
