Final Update: Donations Made!
Dearest Dears of Brouwer Pouwer Nation,
We wanted to provide a quick final update to let you know that, after all was said and done, the Brouwer Pouwer fundraising campaign brought in $2,020.20 for charity. We couldn’t think of a better number!
Thanks again for all your support. We never expected this project to be so successful, and it never would have been without all of you chipping in so generously. It’s been great to see folks sporting their Brouwer Pouwer gear at games, and we look forward to seeing more and more of you as the season progresses!
All Perks Shipped; Most Delivered; One Last Chance
To you, our awesome contributors, thanks again for your support of Brouwer Pouwer Nation.
We wanted to let you know that all perks have now been shipped. About half of them have arrived at their final destinations, and most of the rest are scheduled to arrive today. (Judging from USPS tracking numbers, a few outliers outside the D.C. area will get theirs on Tuesday. Sorry that you live so far away.)
Thanks to everyone who has shared a picture of their perk - keep them coming! We’re so glad everyone seems to be enjoying them, and we can’t wait to see them around Verizon Center and other Caps events. Bonus points will be awarded to anyone who gets Brouwer to sign theirs. Double bonus points if you get him to write “Go Go Brouwer Rangers” on it.
There is one last bit of good news before we get to the final contribution to our two charities – the Kids on Ice and USA Warriors Hockey programs.
We ended up not making nearly as many mistakes as we expected when we ordered blank t-shirts, so there are some leftovers. In an effort to deplete our remaining inventory (and give people who missed out on the first round a chance to get some gear), we’ll be issuing one last call to claim them. (Only t-shirts will be available, and at slightly higher contribution amount than original contributors. And of course all proceeds from these will be included in our final donation!)
So tell all your jealous friends to stay tuned to social media this week for details.
Once this one-last-chance is wrapped up in the next week or so, we’ll have a final contribution amount to share! (Spoiler alert: it’s gonna be big!)
First Perks Mailing Today! (and the Rest Soon!) - Oct. 24, 2013
Nearly all the perk items are ready to go! (The last few towels will be printed tonight and should be ready to ship over the weekend.)
So with a few inconveniences at the post office finally figured out, it looks like we're ready to start shipping your perks! The first batch of 15 or so will drop today, with subsequent drops on Friday, Saturday, and possibly Monday. This means most, if not all, of you will receive your perks in time to wear/bring them to Troy Brouwer Bobblehead night at Verizon Center on Nov. 5, which would be awesome.
You'll receive an email on the day your perk is mailed (or maybe the day after) with your tracking number.
Progress Report - Oct. 18, 2013
We're taking a quick break from all our hard work to give you a progress report on ... all our hard work.
With the arrival yesterday of a big box of rally towels, all the blank items are now in from the suppliers. And we're making great progress in printing, thanks in part to taking the night off from Verizon Center on Wednesday so we could work during intermissions. Unfortunately, we didn't miss much at the game. Sad face.
To give you a bit of background, the printing process involves several steps. First, obviously, is printing. Pushing ink through a screen onto a shirt, jersey or towel. Second is drying. Since we don't have an expensive quick dryer, everything's chilling in my basement for at least 24 hours to let the ink dry. Third is "curing," using a hot iron to set the ink. (The fumes from this are probably giving us brain damage. You're welcome.) The final step will be a wash to test for color fastness, and to make sure your t-shirts arrive fresh and clean so you don't have to wait to wear them!
As of this writing:
- All jerseys are printed and cured. (Woohoo!)
- About two-thirds of the t-shirts have been printed, and about half of those have been cured.
- About one-third the rally towels have been printed (last night) and are drying.
Here's a pic of one of the jerseys on the printing table. You can tell it's a high-tech operation because of the popsicle sticks and painter's tape.
And here's one of a run of t-shirts drying:
And finally, some rally towels:
Ranger Nathan will be spending part of his morning Saturday braving the local post office to get some more info on shipping and the first packages might just start going out over the weekend.
As we mentioned in a previous update, we're hoping to get most local orders delivered by Nov. 4 so you can wear your shirts and wave your rally towels at Troy Brouwer Bobblehead night at Verizon Center on Nov. 5.
That's all for today. Stay tuned for future updates, and thanks again for donating!
The Orders Are Going In (Plus a Note on Bobbleheads)
We wanted to give you a little update to let you know that all the size requests for t-shirts are now in, and we’ll be placing the order for blanks TODAY! (Blank jerseys are already on their way to us for printing, and we should be placing the order for blank towels later this week.)
As you may have heard, the Caps announced that one of their promos this season is Troy Brouwer Bobblehead Night Nov. 5 at Verizon Center. That aligns nicely with our original timeline for delivering most perks by early November, so we’re hoping any of you who are going to the game that night will be able to wear your Brouwer Pouwer gear and/or wave your Brouwer Pouwer rally towel(s) as well!
