My name is Steven Winkelstein, author of Brisko: A True Tale of Survival. Brisko is a true story about one of the last living Holocaust Survivors. This campaign is vital to the future of Holocaust education. With your help, Brisko won't just be a paperback book, Brisko will be an interactive app, ensuring that the next generations are informed and aware of what once happened and can never happen again.
(The Righteous Gentiles who protected Libe, the Survivor. They are pictured with Brisko the dog.)
Libe and her family are taken in by a farmer named Pavlo, who has nothing to gain from his display of humanity, and everything to lose - including his family. As the ghetto in Tuchin burns and the Nazis hunt them daily, Libe’s family must rely on their cunning, hope, and faith to endure. As their journey swells with danger and despair, their faith begins to wane, and Libe finds that her very survival will depend upon her miraculous hero, Brisko.

The State of the Project
The book is written and edited, but there's still much more work to do!
We've teamed up with some amazing partners on this project. Twin Engine Labs is the company that brought you the Morris Lessmore app, based on the Oscar Award winning best animated short. The app flew to #1 in the Apple App Store. These are the same guys who are right now working to build Brisko into a groundbreaking app.
Other costs include editing, marketing, graphic design, and production of the physical copies of Brisko. It's a massive undertaking, but with your support, this project will provide many future generations with an important window into one girl’s story about a time that we can never forget.
This is where your rewards come in. By pledging a donation and backing this project, not only do you become part of history, but you also receive a valuable reward.
The reward tier on the right of this page is designed to provide everyone who wants to contribute with an option that fits their comfort zone. We strived to provide amazing value in all of our rewards. As you browse the choices, please note the pricing system is based on multiples of 18. This is consistent with the Jewish tradition of giving in multiples of 18, or "Chai," in celebration of life.
Imagine that a classroom full of sixth graders opens up their books and instead of just words, it's also a classroom discussion linked to every school in the country, an unlimited number of historical resources, and a complete visual guide to the war machines and the geography in the book.
By mixing narrative and history, Brisko is a fresh look at the Holocaust for a new generation. Our vessel will be the first of its kind in our genre, with interactive learning material and beautiful visuals for the casual reader. Interactivity and engagement will include maps, photos, videos, audio overlay from our True Survivor, social interactivity, and networked classroom discussion capabilities. This is 21st century learning on a subject that has no contemporary learning tools. Brisko will be the first of its kind.
Having previously written and published five children's books, I am certain that Brisko will find success. I invite you to be a part of that.
Other Ways You Can Help
First, you can back the project now. Next, you can share this. Share the Indiegogo link (igg.me/at/brisko) in an email, in a telephone conversation, over breakfast with your family or friends, and share it at the office. Stress to those people that you share with, that it is of great importance that they also share this project. The more participation in our story, the greater our chances are that our Survivor will never be forgotten, and neither will the 1.1 million other children, who had to die during the Holocaust. Help us bring Brisko to the world, because it's important.
We thank you for taking this mission into your hands. Remember, this is your project now.
