As you can see from the video, there is a lot more to unicycling than just the circus. People from all over the world ride a unicycle and they do all sorts of different things on one.
Why are we here?
Unicycling is a fun and exciting sport that anybody can try. It is everything from a great recreational activity to being highly competative at the international level. One of the hardest obstacles people face while learning to ride a unicycle is lack of accessibility. Most people dont have a unicycle in the attic or in their garage. That is the purpose of this fundraiser; to provide people a unicycle and somewhere to ride.
I have been riding a unicycle for 15 years and in the last 4 years I have begun extreme unicycling. The unicycle has put me into the best shape of my life. It motivates me every day to accomplish more. I love to introduce people to unicycles and what they can do.
The goal of this project is to help create a unicycle club in Bremerton, WA. Providing beginner unicycles for 15+ people to learn and practice on. We want to create an awareness in the community and to increase the amount of riders. We will also work on finding locations for different types of club gatherings as well as hosting a national competition. In the end our main goal will be to help anybody that has ever or will ever have a desire to ride a unicycle.
What We Need
The biggest part of funding we are asking for will go to purchasing unicycles for practice for our beginners. We need something that wont fall apart after one person learns to ride. We need it to last for everyone who ever joins the club. Our goal is to be able to have at least 15 club unicycles, which would include mostly normal beginner unicycles as well providing 1 giraffe style unicycle for people looking to try different styles.
Its hard to practice and see how much you like it if you dont own a unicycle. It takes the average person 10 hours to learn how to ride a unicycle. After they join our club and learn how to ride and see what is possible with a unicycle they would be able to decide what kind of unicycle would best suit their needs and get their own advanced unicycle.
Small amounts of funding will be used to help create awareness and excitement in the community for this club and create a wider base of riders. We would also be able to provide shirts for the riders in the club to show off who we are and promote ourselves in our community. It would also be a longer term goal for the club to be able to host a national competition. This would include funding for a venue, prizes for participants, and other competition costs.
This is something that a lot of people dont get the opportunity to ever try. We believe it should available to anyone. Anyone can do it. It doesnt matter if you are 3 or 63, as long as you want to you can do it. People who have prostetic legs have done it, people who are blind have done it. It is one of the most exciting feelings when you first ride. It is just as exciting the first time you learn to turn in a circle. Or ride down a hill, off a curb, or all the way to school. And the world is your oyster from there. People go mountain unicycling, mUni. People ride their unicycle to work, commuting. People ride street, grinding down rails or doing tricks down stairs. The possiblities are endless. And every accomplishment is just as exciting as when you first learned to ride. It is a feeling that everyone should have the opportunity to experience.
Even if we dont reach our goal, we will get as many unicycles as we can to accomodate as many people as possible. The more the merrier.
What is unicycling good for(other than fun)?
This is something that is a huge benefit for anybody that tries to ride. Every accomplishment helps to build confidence. When you do something that you never thought was possible it breaks down barriers and builds up your self worth.
And its not just the mental side that is positive, it is very good for you physically. It helps build muscles in your legs, back, core, arms. Your whole body moves to help keep you balanced and it is a great work out and helps to keep people in shape. It also helps build your coordination and balance.
If you help us fund this project you will be helping kids stay active, and adults get active again(or give them another fun activity to try). You will be helping people find a new community and somewhere they belong.
