Note: the campaign has ended, but it's still possible to make tax deductible donations at our Fractured Atlas page.
Do you believe in the power of a name? Do you believe a man’s a man? Do you think you can make a person into anything you want?
Uranium Madhouse is jumping into its second season with a big play, a big cast and a bigger heart. With your help, our sophomore production will be a world-premier of a new translation of Bertolt Brecht’s A Man’s a Man. Brecht’s play is a mad caper involving beer-thirsty soldiers, a booby-trapped temple, an elephant that isn't an elephant, a lusty and enterprising widow and an epic battle in the mountains of Tibet.
InA Man’s a Man,translated from German by Uranium Madhouse Founding Artistic Director Andrew Utter, you’ll see a man re-engineered like a car. You’ll see that same man relinquish his personal fish and sell an alleged elephant. You may even see the ground on which you’re standing melt away like snow beneath your feet.
You can help make all this a reality.
Our first production of two short plays took place within a café with 3 actors and at a table with a single actor. A Man’s a Man takes place from India to Tibet, at a temple, in a camp canteen and aboard a moving train and with as many as a dozen more actors. And did we mention that there will be original music too?
As you can tell, this is a bigger play. Much bigger. That’s where you come in. Crowdfunding made the launch of Uranium Madhouse possible. We raised over $10,000 from more than 80 donors for our first show. We know that crowdfunding is essential to making our second season possible. We have set a crowdfunding goal of $15,000 for A Man’s A Man. If you’re in a position to donate, we’ll be grateful to our very core. We welcome your participation at any level. Can’t throw a whole lot of cash at us now? A little now and a little later will be fine, too. Donate as often as you’d like. Browse our list of perks – we have gratitude to fit every budget. And please like us on Facebook!
If we haven’t yet been introduced, you can learn more about The Madhouse athttp://uraniummadhouse.org. A Los Angeles-based theater cabal, we explore the anarchic, rowdy core of human consciousness and social organization, political matters, the limits of friendship and the theatrical situation itself.
