This is a story about Olivia. She was raised by her mother in the USA and was recently told her father is Maori. She searches the internet for clues about who she is and finds an article about The Book of Visions. This book is the Maori version of Black Elk Speaks but has never been published, it's in the handwriting of the author. From the article, she relates to it and to the author of the book. She travels to New Zealand to see the book and to find her father. On her journey, Olivia will learn about her culture through music, food, family and traditional ceremony. Even though I'm very serious about the subject of this project, music and humor are healing and that's how I would like to tell this story.
I've been touring New Zealand summer festivals as a singer for 5 years playing with New Zealand musicians. ( DianaHarrisMusic ) My first band was all Maori. It has been a life changing experience for me getting to spend time with my friends and their families.
I've been filming documentary style (Epiphany Of A Pakeha) over the last four years and have learned a lot about myself through another cultures eyes. I'd like to think BOOK OF VISIONS will have that effect on it's audience.
I have worked in film advertising for 4 years, 3 at MovietoneFilm doing VO, and the last year at MotorEntertainment editing film trailers in FinalCut and composing music in Logic for them. My music has appeared in film and television and I composed the music for short film SPOUT staring Rena Owen(Once Were Warriors).
We need your help to take this project to the first level, to make the proof of concept trailer for a feature length film, BOOK OF VISIONS.
I'll be in New Zealand 4 months, 3 of which will be filming and recording music. Music will drive some scenes and will be a large part of it. It will include traditional and music specifically written for this project by New Zealand musicians.
To achieve this, we are raising funds through Indiegogo to complete research, write and record demos of music for the film and a month of filming in New Zealand. $10,000 is our goal. You can donate $1, $5, $10, and up. Whatever you can afford. Every bit will be so very helpful.
Thank you for your contribution!
This is the driveway to one of the places we will be recording!
WE NEED YOU R HELP TO GET THIS STARTED!
I have been funding my filming every year in New Zealand with my Festival gigs. It's not a great idea filming and then rushing off to SING! I love singing and I love filming but have to do them separately to get the most out both and to do my best. I've maxed out favors with borrowing gear when I'm there!
To thank you for joing us on our journey, we have created lots of goodies! We know you don't really need more stuff, but these are tokens of thanks and ways you will help us start this project!!
Depending on the amount you decide to pledge, we have some great rewards, including music recorded this coming year in New Zealand for the movie, a Book of Visions T-Shirt, Tote bag, Baseball hat, Coffee mug, Notebook, Bumper sticker, and pin and more surprises!
If you pledge $1000, we will send you everything from "BOOK OF VISIONS collection"!
No matter the amount you can afford, by backing this project you become a part of it, and we are extremely grateful to you for helping us in these beginning stages!!!
We are looking forward to keeping you posted on our progress, and hope you will choose to be part of this journey!
