BOND is a tiny touch module. It can be a pendant or a bracelet but it comes in pairs. You keep one and you give one to a friend. When you touch it, your friend feels it. No matter where they are on the planet. We love tweets, we prefer tickles.
That is our simple pitch and we love it.
How to use BOND — tickle away
We have designed the BOND touch module to be as simple as possible.
If you touch it for 1 second, your friend will get a 1 second tickle. Tickles can be up to 5 seconds long and any colour of the rainbow – the colour just depends on how long you touch it for. Swipe BOND and you will send a rainbow tickle.
The service — see my happiness and others' happiness
We have an absolutely stunning app. If you want to look back at your activity, the app visualises the tickles you’ve been sharing.
But the BOND app is much more than that. You can also target the world with your touch. We’ve connected up to Google Maps – so BOND owners can leave tickles and emotions wherever they go. This will create an emotional heat map that will help you better navigate the world.
For example, if you’re at a restaurant and love the food, just leave a positive touch for others to see. If you are stuck in traffic, your emotional trail is going to be more negative. Communicate with touch and colours.
But that’s just the start, the potential for using BOND as a way of communicating is limitless – and we envision it being used at festivals and events.
Imagine you’re at a concert, your favourite artist could literally touch you.
Our roadmap — Think LEGO for wearables
Once we’ve miniaturised the touch module, we’ll get to work on other modules. LEDs, touch sensors. We’ve got many ideas, like voice and camera modules, health modules, gaming… But if you’ve got an idea for a module, we would love to hear from you – we’re keen to develop BOND in interesting, unique ways to suit different lifestyles.
Our push goal is to create additional modules. That is what the modular revolution is about.
So what is so unique about us?
Well for starters we don’t have yet another silicone bracelet. Our modular approach truly sets us apart from a functional but also aesthetic perspective. Our modular approach also means you can have BOND in many different shapes and forms. You can even print your own housing.
Sourcing the right materials lies at the core of what we do. That is why our team has been instrumental in Fairphone’s success and BOND will be produced with the same underlying principles. We are responsibly sourcing the wild rubber from the Amazon so as to employ communities who ultimately protect the forrest. With all this we are making sure that the components that go into BOND have a story we are proud to tell.
We have an amazing international team of designers, engineers and systems experts working together from London, Lisbon and Berkeley California. Together we’ve designed and built many prototypes, gradually finessing the hardware, software and overall design. A lot of hard work but we’re almost there.
A lot of people are involved – but here are some of the key players. The rest you will find here. Thanks to Lily and Flavia for the amazonian link as it made the project that more special from the beginning.
How it works — looking at the big picture
BOND connects effortlessly to your smartphone (iOS or Android). So long as you have network coverage on your smartphone the connection between BOND modules will be active.
Each module connects with a phone via Bluetooth 4 —low energy. The battery in the module lasts for up to 7 days and the app runs in the background, so it doesn’t drain your phone of juice.
- Our engineers are amazing at miniaturising the necessary components so BOND feels seamless.
- BOND is compatible with iPhone 4s, iPhone 5 and above, and any Android Smartphone with Bluetooth 4.0
- BOND is also waterproof but please don’t go diving with it.
Our first prototypes were rather big. We strapped these onto our wrists and bodies. Not a pretty sight. But we got progressively better :-)
Thank you so much!

• How do I charge my devices?
A: Induction charging. Every module has two magnets, one on each side. The charger plugs in seamlessly to the magnets.
• Does the charger come with the device
• If I buy a pair, does it come with two chargers or just one?
A: Two chargers.
• What about shipping costs? Are they included?
A: Yes. Worldwide.
• What is this "more modules" you're saying? Can you specify? Is it video? Audio? Cookies?
A: We are already working on a health module (heartbeat, stress levels...) and the third module we would like to hear from you. A camera, an audio recorder are viable possibilities.
• After the crowdfunding is done, where can I buy more modules.
A: Online and through our physical shop in London.
• If the campaign doesnt work can you still plant the trees?
A: Yes we can!
