BLEACHED is a "dark" comedy set in San Francisco. It is the story of Lenny, a Filipino girl in high school. Her mother, a pageant queen past her prime, forces Lenny to use a bleaching cream to lighten the color of her skin in order to increase her cosmetic sales. Lenny reluctantly agrees to gain the approval of her mother, but in the process she loses herself and begins to believe and embody her mother's skewed sense of beauty. Lenny is forced to find herself again, and the result is hilarious and powerful.
__
BLEACHED will be shot on location in San Francisco, California the first week of November 2010. The film is written and directed by SF native Jessica dela Merced, a 2nd year at NYU's graduate film school. Janet Lee, an MFA candidate at UCLA in the Producers Program, and Marjorie Lin, a UCSD graduate in Visual Arts/Meda, will be producing the film. Matthew Mendelson, (http://www.matthewmendelson.com) a 4th year cinematographer at NYU, will be shooting the film on the RED Mysterium.
__
As this is a student production, BLEACHED needs all the help and support it can get. The money raised will mostly go to renting out camera, lighting, and sound equipment in addition to feeding cast and crew, and transportation.. With a little or a lot of support, please join us as we strive to bring Lenny's plight to the big screen.
Any amount is greatly appreciated, even the amounts between $1 and $100, or $100 and $500, etc. The perks' minimums are just there so we can give back to you and show appreciation for your contribution (and hopefully give you more of an incentive to reach the next/highest/'turbobleached' level :) )
