I searched for years to find a wallet that would be as small as possible, carry everything I needed, and still look good. In my search I only found wallets made of plastic, nylon, elastic, and metal. They were small but never made of leather in a simple, timeless style. The smallest leather wallets I could find were designed with heavy leather or so much extra structure built into them that they couldn't carry much, and they still weren't small enough.
Blak Bambu Dimensions
So I eventually started to design my own wallet. I had a few major goals for the design. I wanted it to be:
• Made of high quality leather.
• The smallest form possible.
• Able to carry business cards (without marking them up and wrecking the corners).
• Able to carry at least 8 credit cards.
2 exterior quick access pockets
• 2 pockets for credit cards (can hold 2 cards in each)
5 interior pockets
• 2 pockets for business cards (can hold ~5 business cards each)
• 1 full-length pocket for receipts, ID cards, folded cash (can hold 4 additional credit or ID cards)
Fine leather and bamboo
When you're designing a slim wallet, choosing the right materials is very important. I sourced the thinnest leather I could and decided to use a bamboo material for the lining. Bamboo was chosen since it's lighter and not as bulky as leather, it's more durable than cotton, has a luxurious sheen something like silk without being too slippery, and doesn't look cheap like polyester. I also chose not to use much interfacing, glue, and other structure-building materials within the wallet, since the cards you put into it create all the structure it needs.

Production PlansAfter producing prototypes, improving on the design, and testing for a full year, the Blak Bambu wallet is ready for production. I need your help to offer Blak Bambu to everyone who wants a small, classy wallet. Your contribution will be used to produce the first run of wallets.
I have a great relationship with a capable manufacturer who is ready to start fulfilling orders as soon as the campaign is complete, and they have the capacity to produce as many perk wallets as we can imagine. I also have great advisors with experience developing, producing, and ensuring quality within their products who will be helping the process move as smoothly as possible.
Once the campaign is complete it will take approximately two months to have all of the wallets crafted, packaged, and shipped to backers. We expect shipping to occur no later than early April 2014. Of course, we will be striving to ship the perks sooner than that if at all possible.
Stretch goal (not the final design)
If the campaign doubles its goal everyone who contributes $55 or more will receive a code with their perk wallets that they can use on the BlakBambu.com site for a free magnetic money clip that will complement the Blak Bambu wallet design (the design for the money clip has not been finalized yet, though). Please note that the cost of shipping will not be included for the money clip.
