WHAT IS BIRTH?
BIRTH is a brand new documentary feature film by award-winning filmmaker Christopher Carson and best-selling childbirth author/teacher Suzanne Arms. This film is narrated by actress Carrie-Anne Moss, the mother of three children.
BIRTH features interviews with some of the most notable and leading edge practitioners, researchers and educators in the fields of pregnancy, childbirth, maternal-newborn care, women's health, breastfeeding, birth trauma, brain science and obstetric and neonatal practices.
BIRTH examines the midwifery model of childbirth and the medical obstetrical model of childbirth and compares the two models for levels of safety, cost, quality of care as well as immediate and long-term effects on our children and our families.
BIRTH features interviews and footage of mothers who have had a wide variety of birth experiences in hospitals, in birth centers, and their homes. It also includes births in water, birth in the squatting position and even a birth in the ocean.
This powerful and important film is currently 95% completed. We need your help in order to raise the remaining funds to finish this documentary and have it broadcast to the public on PBS, the country's most important public television network, which is awaiting its arrival.
WHAT WE NEED & WHAT YOU GET
We need to raise $35,000 to finish our documentary film and get it broadcast on PBS stations throughout the United States. Most of the money raised will go toward the legal fees and required insurance policy needed to bring this timely and important film to the public. The remainder of the money will go toward setting up an interactive website on PBS for BIRTH that provides additional information and resources on the various subjects covered in the film and additional footage not seen in the PBS broadcast.
To thank our kind supporters for helping us to reach our financial goal, we are giving away several limited edition incentives. We are offering the exclusive pre-order of a Limited Edition DVD of BIRTH signed by filmmakers Christopher Carson & Suzanne Arms. We are also offering a special limited-time-only early online screening of BIRTH. Be one of the first people to see this timely and powerful film.
We are offering limited edition BIRTH posters, signed copies of the book "Immaculate Deception II" by Suzanne Arms, Associate Producer credits, private phone conversations and in-person meetings with either award-winning filmmaker Christopher Carson or best-selling childbirth author/teacher Suzanne Arms for certain levels of donations.
For donors who can only afford to donate a few dollars, we offer BIRTH bumper stickers and BIRTH wristbands to help spread the important message that childbirth affects us all. Anyone who donates $5 or more to our film will have the opportunity to have their first and last name added to our website as a "Thank You" for their kind donation and for helping us to get our documentary out to the public.
**ALL DONATIONS ARE ELIGIBLE FOR TAX-DEDUCTIBLE STATUS**
Your donation is tax deductible! BIRTH is a fiscally sponsored project of the International Documentary Association (IDA), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Contributions in support of BIRTH are payable to IDA and are tax deductible, less the value of any goods or services received, as allowed by law. The value of goods and services being offered is noted under each donation level. If you would like to deduct the entire donation you have the option to simply decline the "Perk" or "Incentive" at check out.

If you cannot contribute money, please send us some good energy in the form of a prayer or visualization of us achieving our goal and releasing this film to the public. Every effort helps.
WHY IS IT IMPORTANT THAT THE PUBLIC BE ABLE TO VIEW A FILM LIKE THIS ON CHILDBIRTH?
BIRTH is important to each and every one of us, regardless of our age, background or education. All humans are the result of the union of one egg and one sperm in the body of a woman. All of us spent our most critical time of development in our mother's womb. However, there are vast differences in what happened to us in the womb and in how we were born. These differences shape who we are, what we feel about ourselves and our world, how we behave, what choices we make and the relationships we form throughout our life. Childbirth affects each and every one of us personally at a physical, mental and emotional level.
Childbirth is a subject that we cannot afford to be ignorant of or silent about, regardless of whether or not we have children. Childbirth today is a multi-billion dollar, profit-driven industry. The most costly part of childbirth has become the hours or days spent in a hospital, where 98% of babies in America are currently born. Childbirth affects each and every one of us at a financial level, as we all must pay higher medical costs and health insurance rates due to so many malpractice lawsuits against doctors and hospitals for mismanaged births.
Childbirth is a health, human rights and social justice issue as well. We all are currently in jeopardy of losing certain rights regarding what medical treatments and approaches we can and cannot have access to, and we need to be aware of these issues.
Are you, or is anyone you know, having a baby soon or considering it? If so, you really need to watch this documentary. You will learn information that will surprise you and perhaps some facts that might outrage you. You will learn how to identify and avoid potential problems during your pregnancy and childbirth.
