I'm Dorsey Levens, former All Pro Super Bowl champion with the Green Bay Packers.
I want to introduce you to my documentary Bell Rung, about concussions in the NFL. I am deeply concerned about the consequences of head trauma for all my friends and current players, for the boys just beginning, and even for myself. Every day we are learning new and alarming information about concussions and something needs to be done.
What is the documentary Bell Rung about?
We have already shot a 48-minute version of Bell Rung, but we need to do more. We need to get you into the shoes of some of your favorite players, 24/7, so that you can witness firsthand what it is like to be a professional football player struggling to live your life in the aftermath of concussions. With our cameras, we want you to follow these dynamic athletes as they live their everyday lives, interacting with their families, their friends, and even their doctors. We want to make you a participant in an intimate and vivid experience that you will never forget.
Great Football Players have already shared their stories with me:
> Takeo Spikes
> Jamal Lewis
> Richard Seymour
> Vonnie Holliday
> Jamie Dukes
> Wayne Gandy
> Ellis Hobbs
Through the work of our Bell Rung team, these men are allowing you to witness their anxiety at a level of emotion they typically keep reserved because they know how important it is to bring our concerns for them and their debilitating dilemma to you, to everyone we can, in order to make sure people are aware of the consequences. Bell Rung asks the questions that need to be asked:
Is it acceptable for professional football players to remain neglected medically and economically by the league and owners as they confront post-professional football lives of disability and perpetual pain?
Should professional football players have to endure trauma-induced brain damage, early onset dementia, and Alzheimer's disease, often beginning well before the age of fifty?
Is society content to allow these former warriors of the football field to be cast aside and forgotten when they are no longer part of our national entertainment?
Why are we dedicated to creating this documentary?
WE BELIEVE that Bell Rung is an important documentary that must be viewed by professionals as well as by the general public. In order to maximize on its potential benefits, Bell Rung has to reach as many people as possible, giving us the means to fight together. Working together, as a team, we can make the world aware of the plight of these players, as well as help to determine and make the changes that are necessary. Concussions in Sports cause serious problems and the issue of brain injury needs to be addressed. People need to be aware of the consequences.
OF COURSE, WE LOVE FOOTBALL, and we know you do, too! Football is an important part of our family lives and family traditions and that's why we think not only football players should see Bell Rung, but mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, friends, coaches, fans, teammates—EVERYBODY!
