Our Story

Jerusalem has reached a critical time in its complicated history: there is an escalating conflict between the rapidly growing ultra-religious and the majority moderate and secular communities for control of the city. In reaction to this tension, a new wave of artists and activists are working to keep the city open to all, resulting in a burgeoning cultural renaissance.


This summer, documentary filmmaker Liz Nord went to Israel with the help of an ROI Seed Grant to begin researching and filming a new documentary on this exciting movement.  She met face-to-face with some of Jerusalem's political activists and cultural tastemakers, whose complex and passionate feelings about their city are exemplified in the clip above by one of the many people with whom Liz spoke. Collectively, their stories are important because what happens within Jerusalem influences the future of the entire Middle East.  

The stories in this film will provide new perspective on Jerusalem's internal struggles and accomplishments, both of which are largely ignored by the international media in favor of focusing on Israels external diplomatic challenges.  Liz Nords documentary sheds light on the complexities of creating change in one of the worlds most beloved, misunderstood, and fascinating cities. 

What We Need & What You Get

We're at the beginning of a long and exciting filmmaking process and we need your help to get to the next stage--editing our promotional trailer--which will ultimately allow us to get back to Israel and finish filming the full feature-length movie. The funds raised here will go toward editing equipment and hiring an editor to take the project to the next level. We filmed so much amazing footage this summer during pre-production, and with your help we can get back to Israel and make a documentary that shows Jerusalem as never before.
