Barrier is a feature length science fiction film about the dangers of genetic research. Set during an unspecified point in the future the film shows a society that is crumbling under a technological death grip. Themes of trust, evolution and isolation are central to the film which draws heavy influence from the black and white noir films of the 40's and 50's; and pulls modern inspiration from classic science fiction films like Silent Running, Akira, Ghost in the Shell and Sunshine among others.
The film follows a drifter named Vic Ryden and his attempts to make a meager living for himself by “acquiring” hard to get information for money. His years of experience living off the digital grid have given him the unique ability to find things that no one else can. When Vic is hired to find a missing scientist he and his partner Pete England begin to unravel a complex series of events, events that lead them to frightening discoveries about the forced scientific evolution of human beings and where we might be headed.
The goal is to get this film made, to do that we need help. You make donations to get cool stuff and we get to make the film, there's almost no math involved and technically everyone wins, except the guy who likes math.
By donating to our endeavor you're supporting a small group of people who are trying to tell a gigantic story. We're not a big company and we have no sponsors, donations go right on to the screen. The more we get, the better we can make it.
We're trying to be conservative and that puts our goal at $30,000. That's about the bare minimum we can make the film for if we're going to do it right. Our producer is phenomenal with budgeting and allocating funding. She says things like production insurance are very important, but food and sleep are not. Instant cost savings!
Our crew is comprised of professionals from the film industry who are incredibly good at what they do, most of us have been working together for years and even went to school together. Our day jobs consist of working on other people's productions, helping them tell their stories and watching them spend hideous amounts of money on frivolous things like iPads and chairs that have wheels on them. We like chairs with wheels too, but what do they have to do with making better movies?
Donations to our film go right to the important things. Like getting great locations, having phenomenal lighting and allowing us the resources to do one more take when it really counts. We don't care about shooting on a fancy camera or having big name actors, we're only interested in telling a great story that gets people excited.
Everyone likes cool stuff, it's a fact; look it up. We've worked very hard to put together some great rewards so that everyone who donates gets something cool. Everything from wallpapers and digital downloads to Blu-ray/DVD combos and Skype convos with key crew members is here for the taking.
We have original artwork by artist Daniel Rodda, printed on high quality 100lb. paper. Hand printed t-shirts by printmaker Robert Smith in mens regular crew necks and womens v-necks. Genetic Safety Kits are also available and include a shirt! Check the gallery at the top of the page for detailed photos of all the rewards and email us if you have questions or suggestions!
