Short SummaryMany children have no adult supervision after school. Studies have shown that the hours between 3 and 8 p.m. are the hours that most kids are likely to get involved with crimes, be victims of crime or engage in other risky behavior. The Clubs provide an alternative to the dangers of the streets. Moreover, the Clubs provide stimulating activities that help build character, self-esteem, values and skills.
Boys & Girls Clubs of the East Valley offers that and more! Our Clubs instill a sense of competence, usefulness, belonging and influence.
Today’s America is not the America we knew as children. Our parks have been taken away and our playgrounds have become overrun with drugs and gangs. The afterschool programs; sports, art, and music have been removed from most school districts. Some of this is due to budget cuts but much of it is due to poor money management. Please allow me to share a couple facts with you. At the Boys & Girls Clubs of the East Valley, $.95 of every dollar you invest in our Program goes directly into programs and services for our members. We are very proud of this fact because it shows that our Clubs are doing right by the children and you as our funding partners. This is why we are to provide those programs that schools have removed, while offering the true “Safe Youth Experience” we all want our kids to have. I enthusiastically encourage you; my friends, family, and like-minded businessmen and businesswomen to make a real investment in our youth. Every dollar counts. Please do what you can to help us. What every investor is looking for from his or her Return On Investment (ROI) is sustainable growth, which is reflected in the growth we see in our club kids: from problem child to problem solver, from victim to victorious, and best of all from today’s recipient of a helping hand to tomorrow’s provider of a helping hand.
One Insprational Story:
Mona Dixon, BGCEV 2010 National Youth of the Year
When she and her mother had to sleep on the street, Romonia “Mona” Dixon would pull out a bag of books she brought home from elementary school and read by the street light. She’d cover up with her mother’s jacket and pretend she was one of the characters in a book, and it made her feel safe.
That was just a few years ago, on the nights when the homeless shelters in San Diego were full. When she was 10 they moved to Tempe, where they continued to live in shelters until the family got into public housing.
Now she’s a 20 year old senior in college, a member of the Barrett's Honor College at Arizona State University, and the books she reads continue to inspire her and take her to far-off places in her mind.
Dixon won the title of National Youth of the Year from the Boys & Girls Clubs of America in 2010, selected from over thousands of teenagers from across the country. She earned more than $130,000 in scholarships.
“I’ve always wanted to come to ASU,” says Dixon, who is in the W. P. Carey School of Business and wants to become a purchasing manager. “At the Tempe Boys & Girls Club they got tickets to ASU football and basketball games, and the games were really fun for me. I knew I’d have fun here and get a good education."
Mona Dixon is just one of the many kids that the Boys & Girls Clubs of the East Valley has helped and will continue to help, with the continuous support from our donors and friends like you!

Jim and I would like to let you know what a blessing the Boys & Girls Club has been for our family. I asked our daughters what the Boys & Girls Club means to them. Sara said "I love the Boys & Girls Club, it is so much fun!" Jessica said "I feel safe because of all the adults in each room, and when I have my own kids, I will find a Boys & Girls Club for them to go to." The fact that our daughter tells us that she would look for a Boys & Girls Club for her children assures us that they are well taken care of and that we have made the right choice for their after-school care. There are little words that a Mother and Father can say to express the gratefulness that is felt when their children are happy and safe in such a wonderful after-school program.

"The Boys & Girls Clubs are truly wonderful places to be. For my son, it's not just a place to go after school while mom works; it's a cool place for many, many other reasons. The staff and volunteers are a spectacular bunch. They are ALL kind, helpful, fun-loving and genuinely care about kids. My child has learned that friendship has no boundaries, such as color, creed or impairment. He's a straight-A student and enjoys helping other kids learn and succeed. This drive has been inspired and nurtured by the wonderful role models he sees almost every day at the club. He has now begun to enjoy sports and learn sportsmanship and teamwork. He volunteers to help out with community projects and truly feels that he can make a contribution to others. To the staff of the Boys & Girls Clubs of the East Valley - thank you for everything."

Other Ways You Can HelpHelping the Boys & Girls Clubs of the East Valley monetarily is not the only avenue in which you can help us and our members with this campaign. Please help us generate momentum by referring your friends, family, co-workers, and others to help this cause for the youth of today and the leaders of tomorrow.
I would like to personally thank you in advance for your decision to join us as a sponsoring partner for our youth. Every year clubs all across America are closed due to lack of funds, so we believe that no club is safe from such a choice, however, because of your ongoing support we know this is a fate our East Valley members will never have to experience. Your investment will help a young boy or girl or teenager attend one of our 12 clubs and participate in our programs; whether it be our summer camp, one of our sport leagues or attend a field trip to broaden their horizon you will be making a difference. Log onto clubzona.org for more! Thank you in advance for making an investment in youth, “in your future”. Thank you for supporting Boys & Girls Clubs of the East Valley- Great Futures Start Here!
