Avayava - Contemporary Dance Festival in Pune, India

Avayava - Contemporary Dance Festival organized in Pune, India to promote contemporary dance and make it more accessible to an audience in India.

First ever crowdfunding campaign for a dance festival in India.

Our Story - What is the festival about?

Avayava - essentially means a constituent part of the body, a time-span or a duration in Sanskrit. All of these terms are very relavent to dance and that was the idea behind naming the festival.

Avayava is a contemporary dance festival organised in the city of Pune, India by Swapnil Dagliya in association with Swapnil's Performing Arts & Contemporary Ensemble ( SPACE).

With this festival we are trying to make contemporary dance more accessible to the audience in my city -- Pune and on a larger scale in India.

  • Getting International Artists to teach workshops in Contemporary Dance Technique, Contact Improvisation and Contemporary Dance Theatre we are able to share the knowledge that the amazing teachers have with the performing artists in the city.
  • Screening dance for camera productions from around the world helps bring the artists in the city up to speed with the happenings in the dance world. They are exposed to the up and coming trends in contemporary dance helping them get a more global understanding of dance in general.
  • The festival concludes with a night of performances where the audience gets to witness new and innovative ideas presented to them through the medium of movement and dance. We make it a point that up and coming artists are given a chance to perform on stage with good lighting design, sound engineering, making use of creative props and technology.

We think that art is very essential for a person's growth and education but somehow it is a seen as a luxury in developing countries.

This festival is our sincere effort to spread some joy into the lives of people and make it easily accessible to them.

Where do you come in?

With this festival we know that we will be able to generate an awareness about the importance of arts in the audience and it will serve as a platform to inspire young artists to come forward and take it up professionally.

All your contributions go towards :

The best other way you can help, after you donate of course, is to spread the word!!!  Tell your friends about Avayava, and ask if they would like to help spread art and contemporary dance and make it more easily accessible to people in India. They could be contributing to the next big festival in India because it will only go on to become bigger from here!  You can easily "share" that you donated by using the tools on this site.  Post the link on your Facebook page!  Put it on your friends' walls!  Send a Tweet!  And remember the power of positive thinking!  Come be a part of AVAYAVA 2013 and visualize how you have helped all the artists and students learn and grow, as dancers and as beautiful human beings.

AVAYAVA 2013 is scheduled from the 27th to the 31st of March.
