Autumn was born a few weeks early and is in the Cardiac ICU at Children's Hospital. She has a severe form of a rare heart disease called Ebstein's Anomaly. The right side of her heart is not functioning correctly, so there isn't enough blood being pumped into her lungs. Complicating things further is a sealed pulmonary valve (allows blood to flow from the heart to the lungs).
Autumn is just over 3 weeks old and has already been through 4 surgeries. Her vitals are unstable and she has her good hours and her bad hours. If all goes well, she'll need several surgeries as she grows to replace the parts the doctor's are putting in her. Eventually, she'll need a heart transplant.
My wife and I found out about her condition in July. Although the odds were stacked against us, she made it through pregnancy and is here with us today. Due to my wife's high risk pregnancy and a case of high blood pressure that turned into preeclampsia she has been unable to work since July. We've quickly gone through our small savings and are struggling to provide for our family of 5 (4 year old and 2 year old). We've cut back dramtically and are still having trouble putting food on the table. It's come to the point where I'm choosing which bill to pay late and which to not pay at all. The hospital bills are already coming in and it's expected Autumn will be in the ICU for a while - our goal date right now is Christmas.
I'm not asking you to feel sorry for me. There are people out there in worse positions than us. It's hard for me to do this, especially knowing that all of our family and friends will see it, but I'm setting pride aside because I'm at the end of my rope and don't know what else to do...
Any help you can give will be greatly appreciated. We'll be forever grateful and it will be used strictly to provide for our family.
Even if you don't have a penny to spare, if you could share our story with people via Facebook and Twitter that would great.
