Please note: this is a flexible funding campaign. This means that every contribution matters, and we may get the partial funding, even if we don't reach the full funding goal. So please feel free to contribute, and you may be sure that this will help us in any case! Thanks a lot!
Autotag.me - magically tags your images and makes them easier to organize and find
With the recent boom of smartphones and digital cameras we are in a situation where more than one billion images are taken every single day, just to be forgotten in thirty minutes. And no matter if we are photographers or just love to take pictures, we need a solution to help us organize all these images. The project the we present here - AutoTag.me - is an online tool that aims to bring meaning to every image by automatically suggesting and assigning relevant keywords that describe the colors, objects and concepts represented inside the image.
How it works?
- You upload your images directly from your computer and/or feed the images from your accounts in external services like Dropbox, Flickr, Instagram, and Facebook;
- The tool automatically suggests some relevant tags for your images. And if needed you can remove some of the tags and eventually add some more manually;
- Once you are ready you can save the tags directly in the images (in their IPTC data) and/or export them to the external services they come from (in step 1).
And the more you use the tool the better it becomes in tagging your types of photos!
Sounds like magic, right? And actually we are very excited about what we’ve done so far! In the last year we invested a lot of personal time and resources to develop the core of the technology that analyzes the pixel content of an image and aims to automatically suggest quality conceptual tags for it. You can see a demonstration of its current status in the video at the top and in the images inside the gallery tab.
Next steps and what we need
Now we need your support to push further several very important aspects of the project:
- to implement technologies that may recognize many more types of concepts and objects;
- to improve the quality (the precision) of the suggested tags;
- to optimize the speed of the system and make it scalable enough to handle millions of images for tagging daily;
- to finish the interfaces of the AutoTag.me end-user tools for web, mobile and desktop;
- to add various integration options, like auto-tagging your Dropbox or Instagram images and providing an API.
The 94 000 USD funding that we currently need will cover the living expenses of our team of seven super heroic hard workers (including us as founders) for up to eight months, plus the infrastructure cost to run large scale computing to evaluate various technology approaches toward improving the auto-tagging solution.
The seven roles in the team are: two image recognition developers, one back-end developer, one mobile developer, one scalability and security expert (a.k.a. admin), one front-end developer, and one usability and design (UX/UI) professional.
What you get?
If you feel it right to support us, we will not only proudly put you in the hall of the auto-tagging fame, but also invite you as one the first few closed-beta users of the AutoTag.me tool. And you’ll able to use it for free in the next several years, even for huge amount of images and via API for the most generous supporters!
In comparison - with the donation that you make via the perks in the right of this page you practically get more than 90% discount from the typical prices of the service!
And last but not least, you get a lot of good “photo karma” that will prevent your photos from being lost ever again :)
We are more than determined to continue hard-working on this project, and all the funding that we manage to receive will go for its continuous development and improvement, starting from the new technology improvements, and moving toward finishing the web and introducing the mobile interfaces and the API.
The impact is going to be BIG!
We do believe that the auto-tagging can save a lot of our most precious resource - time. If you are for example a stock photographer this means the time for tagging all these images before submitting them for sale. And if you are an avid photo lover this means time for finding the right image among your personal collection of thousands of photos.
The user acceptance of the previous end-user project that we worked on - Cropp.me - was a huge motivation for us. Cropp.me is a tidy online tool that allows you to upload and automatically crop your images in the desired size in a second. It was widely covered in online media, including The Next Web, Lifehacker, and Smashing Magazine, and a lot of fans created image and video tutorials on how to use it and why it’s cool. Thank you all guys!
We are twice as motivated to create something exceptional with AutoTag.me and we would sincerely appreciate your help and support to do it! :)
Some people have already started to support us, for example by voting for AutoTag.me on Betali.st. And Startup Plays featured us as one of the 35 worthy tech projects that deserve wider publicity. Now we need your help!
Other than monetary contribution
Money is not everything, but it is an essential part of the startup equation when you build something innovative that requires a lot of passion and effort before going to market. If you have the opportunity to donate money - this will immensely help us to deliver faster and better tagging for the good of all photo lovers and professionals.
However, even if you can’t currently afford to make a monetary contribution, we would greatly appreciate to spread the word and make some noise about the AutoTag.me fundraising.
Tip: The Indiegogo share tools at the top of this page may also help you in the process of spreading the word.
BIG Thank YOU for your support!
