> SYNOPSIS: May, 1970, as a combined United States and Army of South Vietnam military incursion enters Cambodia in search of North Vietnamese and Viet Cong army sanctuaries...a Cambodian youth named Samnang (‘Lucky’) and an ornery but likable wedding musician named Nuon make their way through the conflict encountering landmines, Cambodian supernatural beings called 'Arbs', and marauding helicopters as they go.
Shooting on location in Kandal province, Cambodia, August 2012; all equipment in this photo (and more) has now been sold off to pay for completion of the movie and its initial festival entries.
> Our Needs For this Stage of 'FREEDOM DEAL'
We're seeking $999* for remaining and upcoming festival submission fees; at an average of $50 a pop, that's 20 fests (*minus one last lucky dollar from the producer's pocket)
*As understanding as they can be, many festivals absolutely need submission fees to pay staff to view, collate, and organize entries and can't provide a waiver...
☛ ...any extra funds received will be rolled over into the 21st, 22nd, 23rd (and beyond) festival application fees, materials, and postage.
Sound recordist Ratha Tieng (L) and actor Khoun Darith (Samnang/'Lucky') celebrate the final day of shooting. Help the whole team get their work seen at international festivals!
> What do you get out of your contribution (besides great REWARDS and the great feeling of being generous and being a part of cinema history?)
Your participation in the production of our short movie version of FREEDOM DEAL is a vital step in helping us get the feature made:
Your contribution to 'Freedom Deal' will directly and positively impact the development of the re-emerging Cambodian film industry which was shredded during the Khmer Rouge regime - you will be participating in the revival of a nations' cinema culture (see how we included Cambodian staffers & talent in our successful shooting process HERE)
Your contribution to 'Freedom Deal' will raise awareness about the humanitarian effect of landmines and UXO on noncombatant IDP/refugees around the globe
Your contribution to 'Freedom Deal' will help tell a story that's never, ever been told...a story about a little known chapter of US-Asian history during the US-Vietnam conflict that has NEVER been explored.
OUR TRACK RECORD IS STRONG: Camerado's previous projects include the award winning social issue feature length documentary, BOOKWARS ('Terrific' - LA Times) which took years to produce, with no initial funding and a similarly modest budget as we currently are faced with for the FREEDOM DEAL short film project.
