Synopsis

Andrés relata un dia en la solitaria vida de un joven mexicano de clase privilegiada que gasta sus fines de semana en Valle de Bravo borracho, provocando peleas y agraviado por no poder alcanzar a la joven mujer que él ha declarado amar.    

La historia, un corto momento en la juventud de Andrés, comienza como cualquier sábado por la mañana: desperdiciando el día con su mejor amigo Villa, tomando cervezas y mirando niñas en la alberca. De noche, mientras él y sus amigos pre-copean antes de salir, Andrés se percata de su incuestionable soledad y se preocupa por encontrarse en el antro a su ex–novia Inés, de la cual todavía esta enamorado.

En la borrachera, Andrés termina peleandose con quien se rumora es el nuevo pretendiente de su ex-novia. Golpeado, triste y sin sus amigos, Andrés encuentra a Inés en una esquina, pero ella le da las peores noticias que podría escuchar en ese momento.

Es domingo y es hora de regresar a la Ciudad de México. Crudo y con el corazón roto, Andrés toma una última caminata por Valle de Bravo. En su camino encuentra a tres locales de la misma edad que él, pero ajenos a su realidad social. Con su ayuda, Andrés es capaz de reconocer las alturas de su juventud y recordar una vez mas aquello que él ama y que lo hace ser feliz.

Synopsis

Andrés depicts one day in the lonley life of a wealthy Mexican teenager who wastes his weekends in a small lakeside town attempting to repress his sorrow by drinking, fighting and endlessly pursuing the girl he claims to love.

This short story, a snippet of the life of Andrés, begins with as a regular Saturday morning for him: wasting the day with his best friend Villa, drinking beer and checking out girls by the pool. At night, Andrés and his friends drink tequila and rum before going out. Aware of his loneliness, Andrés confesses to Villa that he is still in love with his ex-girlfriend Inés, and he is nervous of running into her at the club.

Within the drunken and crowded night, an already-drunk  Andrés starts a fight with another teenager after hearing a rumor that he hooked up with Inés. Beaten, sad and without his friends, Andrés finally runs into Inés and when he goes up to talk to her she responds with the worst thing Andrés could hear at that moment.

On Sunday morning Andrés, heartbroken and hung-over, takes one last walk around the town before driving back to Mexico City. He stumbles upon three local kids of his same age, but of a different socioeconomic reality, who help him to realize how far he is willing to go to obtain the love and happiness he deserves.

Nota del director

Después de casi cuatro años en Nueva York regreso a México a terminar mi carrera en el país de donde soy. Era inevitable, pues como director, como artista, las historias que les quiero contar provienen desde mi interior - de donde soy y de donde crecí. Y para despedirme de la juventud ofrezco una historia de la juventud mexicana en la cual aprendí a crecer.

Como muchas otras historias, Andrés es una historia de un niño en busca de amor. La película trata de la soledad de un joven que desperdicia sus fines de semana en Valle de Bravo y para reprimir su tristeza se la pasa emborrachándose, peleándose e intentando reconquistar a la niña que declara amar. Andrés se lleva a cabo en un solo día y dentro de una noche explosiva y borracha, como muchas otras, en la cual un individuo enamorado y confundido debe darse cuenta de quien es él. No busco crear un personaje simpático con el cual todos se puedan relacionar, pero si busco crear a un Andrés honesto, y que inevitablemente, por su crudeza y sinceridad, muchos lleguen a entender y a encontrar similitudes con sus vidas porque muchos de nosotros hemos estado dónde Andrés ésta ahora: solos, borrachos y confundidos, golpeados, caminando solos a casa de noche.

Andrés es una historia compuesta de varias verdades –algunos aspectos de mi vida en Valle, otros de la vida de amigos y conocidos y otros de chismes de los cuales llegué a enterarme. Esta es la historia de la juventud de Andrés, pero también es mi historia de mi juventud en México. Yo he estado enamorado de Valle de Bravo y cómo Andrés y muchos otros, me he enamorado de muchas niñas en este lugar. Para mi, Valle de Bravo representa mi eterna nostalgia por una época de mi juventud que ahora queda entre mi memoria y las páginas de este guión. Andrés es una oda a la ardiente y explosiva juventud mexicana que hemos vivido y una oda al Valle de Bravo donde muchos de nosotros llegamos a emborracharnos y enamorarnos; un lugar del que yo siempre estaré enamorado.

Director’s Statement

After spending almost four years aboard from my country, I return to Mexico to make a film in the place where I am from. It was inevitable, because as a director, as an artist, the stories I want to tell come from inside of me – from the country I grew up in. And as a farewell to youth, I want to tell a story about growing up in Mexico.

Like many other stories, Andrés is the story of a boy and his pursuit for love. The film is about the solitude of a wealthy teenager who wastes his weekends in a small lakeside town and attempts to repress his sorrow by drinking, fighting and endlessly pursuing the girl he claims to love. Andrés takes place in only one day and during a drunk and explosive night, like many others, in which an individual must confront his solitude and absence of love in order to accept himself. I am not trying to make a sympathetic character with which everyone will be able to relate to, instead I want to make an honest Andrés, and through his rawness and sincerity many of us will understand him because many of us have been in a similar situation: lonely, drunk and confused, beaten, walking home alone at night.

The story of Andrés comes from truth. It is a story made up of accumulated truths of what I know most about life in Mexico. It is Andrés’ story of growing up in our country, and in part it is also my growing up story. I’ve been in love with Valle de Bravo and I have fallen in love, like Andrés and many others, with innumerable girls in that remote town hidden in the mountains. Today, when I go back to Valle, older, tired, jaded, I know Valle is not what it used to be for us in our deepest youth; now it belongs to our younger siblings and cousins. But I sit down in the same terrace as before, eat breakfast in the same table and look out at the same lake, and as I remember those days, the passion of Valle comes to life again and I realize, like Andrés, that I am still in love with it.

Quién es el director?

Eduardo García Lecuona nació en la Ciudad de México, pero vive en Nueva York donde realiza los estudios de producción cinematográfica y negocios del entretenimiento. Como director, Eduardo se interesa en historias que son culturalmente relevantes y que muestran al cine como un medio internacional de expresión. El ha escrito y dirigido varios cortometrajes y algunos cortos animados. Su primer corto “Kabukicho” fue proyectado en el la sección Short Film Corner del Festival de Cannes en el 2012 y su segundo filme “From the Dust“ esta en proceso de ser enviado al circuito de festivales internacionales. Además de escribir y dirigir, Eduardo ha tenido créditos como productor en varios cortos estudiantiles. Andrés será su primera experiencia dirigiendo en su natal México.

ANTONIO PATRON

--- Antonio Patron (Productor en México) es estudiante de la carrera de comunicaciones en la Universidad Iberoamerica en la Ciudad de Mexico. Sus pasiones son el arte y la música independiente. Desde chico, Antonio ha ido a Valle de Bravo, lugar que él consdiera su segundo hogar. 

 

EDUARDO DINGMAN

--- Eduardo Dingman (Productor en México) estudia mercadotecnia en la universidad Centro en la Ciudad de México. Siendo un gran aficionado al cine, su deseo es producir proyectos filmicos que demuestren la realidad de México.

 

FRANCISCO SANCHEZ

 

--- Francisco Sanchez (Productor en Nueva York) estudia en la New York University la carrera de producción cinematográfica, tienendo la dirección y el guionismo como sus areas de especialización. Francisco ha trabajado en varios proyectos cinematogràficos tanto propios como en colaboración.

 

ISAAC ROMANO

--- Isaac Romano (Productor en México) acaba de unirse a nuestro equipo. Estudia la carrera de Comunicaciones en la Universidad Iberoamericana y sus pasiones son el cine y la música. Es un emprendedor en las nuevas medias y tiene experiencia produciendo y dirigiendo cortometrajes.

 

AGUSTIN VEGA 

--- Agustin Vega (Director de Casting) estudia en la Universidad Iberoamericana y su popularidad dentro de la sociedad de la juventud mexicana nos ha ayudado a conseguir varios actores que quedan perfecto con la historia.

--- Antonio Patron (Producer in Mexico) studies Media & Communication at the Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico City. His passions in life are art and independent music. Since he was a child, Antonio has frecuently gone to Valle de Bravo, a place that he considers to be his second home.

-- Eduardo Dingman (Producer in Mexico) is a marketing student at Centro Institute in Mexico City. Being a great cinephile, Eduardo wishes to produce projects that unveil the contrasting realities of Mexico. 

--- Francisco Sanchez (Producer in New York) is a Film Production student at New York University, where he focuses on directing and writing. Francisco has worked on several film projects of his own and collaborating with other students.

--- Isaac Romano (Producer in Mexico) recentley joined our ream. He studies Media & Communications at the Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico City with a concentration in Film & TV. He is a media entrepeneur and his passions are films and music and has experience producing and directing short films.

--- Agustin Vega (Casting Director)is in his second year at the Universidad Iberoamericana and his popularity within Mexico's youth has been of great help in casting the perfect actors for the film.
