Help give Anatomic Air Press a boost by buying the book!
If you contribute and buy the book, you'll most likely get a lifetime subscription to most of my one-off zines/projects. This means you'll get snail mail from me until I die! Who doesn't want to get awesome handmade creative treats in the mail?
What is Anatomic Air Press?
Anatomic Air Press was created in 2002 by me, Sinoun Chea, to showcase my creative efforts and collaboration with others. After 10 years of AAP's inception, I have published and made a handful of zines or books... but that's really just the beginning. I have too many ideas in my notebook ready to be executed and produced. Creating things take time and money, something I currently have little of. But this lack of money and time is not permanent and will change, especially with your help and support!
What am I doing?
I'm reprinting a book/zine collaboration I made a few years ago with Celso in an effort to raise money for future Anatomic Air endeavors.
What is this book/zine?
In 2007, Celso and I made a book called "Free" (except the title is actually "Free" in Cambodian, cover is shown above). Celso did the artwork and I did the writing. There are a few things written in Cambodian in it, but don't worry, it's translated. :) Read reviews about the book here. It was one of my favorite projects to share to the world and I sold the first 100 copies that I handmade in 2007-2008 pretty quickly. Celso handmade 200 copies for himself and they are pretty much gone on his end as well. Celso did a linocut for the cover and he sent me 200 covers to bind with the book. I have 100 of them left. Celso lost the linocut so we probably won't be reprinting this book any more in the future!
Why am I doing this?
Now that I'm ready to get the last 100 copies reprinted and made, I decided to actually ask for help this time. Your help will go a long way.
In the beginning, Celso and I sold the books for $5 or less. That was a ridiculous steal. You're probably wondering now why the hell am I asking for $25 a book?! I'll tell you why. First, the book is HANDMADE. Yes, I take it to the print shop to make copies, but I cut each sheet and bind the book myself. The book is 5" x 5" and has 56 pages. Some of the pages are "fold-outs" so it involves taping some of the pages. Don't forget that Celso block printed each cover! It's a lot of work, but we put a lot of love into it. We probably spend an average of 15-30 minutes printing and binding each book. This does not include the actual printing and shipping costs! The book is a true labor of love. With the money I'm raising by selling the book here on IndieGoGo, I'm going to put it towards future projects of Anatomic Air Press!
Why should you support Anatomic Air Press?
I like to make things. It's fun. And I think you may enjoy some of the things I make. There are a lot of great ideas waiting to be produced. Your support will help me produce these projects faster and it will help me continue my future collaborative efforts with others. There are some really cool things I have in the works and I want to share them with you. Below you will find what I have in mind in addition to the perks.
* If you contribute $25, I will include my next zine project called "hearing blue". It is complete, it is just waiting to be printed.
** If you contribute $50, you will also get the zine "hearing blue". I will also send you a project called "wave good hi" when it's complete. I don't want to give too many details to ruin the "surprise", but I'm pretty excited about this one! It's quite different from the rest of my projects. Another big plus is when Celso and I make a new book (continuing the story of "Free"), you will most likely get a copy of that as well! :)
Why do I try to keep Anatomic Air alive?
Because I want to inspire as many people as I can around the world with imaginative stories. With imagination and creativity, people will be more in touch with themselves and ultimately life and the beautiful world we live in. This creates positive energy and love... that is what Anatomic Air Press is all about... and I want to keep that alive forever.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and for your contribution to the future of Anatomic Air Press! If you'd like to see a few things I've done in the past, please check out my site: www.anatomicair.com
PS. Please share this with your friends! It would mean so much to me! Thank you so much for the love.
The image below is the 11 x 17 "Anatomic Air Press" poster (and 4" x 6" postcards) you will receive if you contribute $50. Each poster will be signed by the artist, Joe Tsambiras, a very sweet and talented man.
This is the other postcard you will receive if you contribute $50. It is believed this picture was taken during the reign of King Sisowath of Cambodia (1840-1927). What you see are dancers at Angkor Wat. When I first saw this picture, it did something to me. So now I'm printing it so everyone else can have a copy.
