A Sensational Expulsion of the Devil which occurred in Iowa in 1928

'An  American Exorcism' details the extraordinary 23-day-long exorcism case in 1928 involving a woman who had been cursed by her own father.

It took place in a parish convent in Earling, Iowa and was assisted by religious sisters, all of whom requested a transfer when the distressing experience was over.

The strange noises and repulsive bodily phenomena caused by the devil exemplify the power of the devil over matter.

Conversations between the exorcist and various evil spirits, give insights into the devil's malice and cunning. Yet this film also reveals the fear these evil spirits have of Holy Water, of a Crucifix, of Relics as well as of St Michael the Archangel and various other Saints.

One of the most famous exorcism cases in U.S. history, this fascinating yet sobering story reveals the malice of Satan and shows God's victory over evil through the instrumentality of the official Roman Rite of Exorcism.

A Provocative Approach

'An American Exorcism' is a supernatural horror movie. It is not based on fiction.

Unlike many Hollywood exorcism movies which are loosely based, inspired by, or thoroughly invented, ‘An American Exorcism’ will be the first film to be 100% accurate to the case involved and the theological underpinnings of the Roman Ritual of Exorcism which will result in a more visceral, authentic, and satisfying film.

Our production team will also include an Exorcist Priest to ensure accuracy.

Thus it may come across to some as controversial due to the intense nature involved in the battle between heaven and hell, good and evil, God and the Demons who appear, as it were, to war over the soul of the young woman Anna Schmidt who was believed to be diabolically possessed.

But regardless of your personal persuasion it was a true case of exorcism and the first to be officially sanctioned by the Church in America after much examination and deserves to be told.

Fr. Gary Thomas - Exorcism Consultant

Fr. Gary Thomas is a Vatican-certified practicing exorcist whose experience was the subject of the movie 'The Rite', starring Anthony Hopkins. Fr. Gary has graciously agreed to consult on portions of the script for 'An American Exorcism' which deals with the official Rite as well as remaining open to any questions we might have.

Michael McMullen - Actor

Michael McMullen (sitting opposite Kevin Spacey 'House of Cards') signs on as the exorcist priest in our 'An American Exorcism' promo/trailer to be launched here on Indiegogo.com! I have worked with Mike before and he is a solid talent and this gives us an opportunity to get reacquainted and feel him out for the possible lead role of Father Theophilus Riesinger, the exorcist priest. 

Where does the Funding Go?

$11,500 will be used for the barebones completion of the principal photography. Many films have been successfully shot for less and on film for that matter! I sort of see this as the 'El Mariachi' of horror.

At this point cast and crew will be working for the opportunity to be involved on this exiciting and unique film and for credit. Our hope is that many, through this film, will come to know and appreciate their work on a mainstream level.

'An American Exorcism' is primarily a one-location horror film. Therefore the funding raised will be used to:

• Secure the rental of the parish Convent/Location for the shoot.
• Provide additional Equipment/Gear/Grip & Electric to be staged at location.
• SFX Makeup for the "possessed" actress.
• Set-Design for the location to match the visual tone of the film.
• Wardrobe for the cast.
• Transportation for 1 or 2 additional locations.
• Accommodations for the cast and crew.
• MEALS to keep the team alive during the 18 (12-14 hr.) days of principal photography!

So what happens if we don't reach our Financial Goal?

If we do not secure the entire amount we will keep pushing forward. We will create a Round II campaign and establish a production fund (meaning we will not touch funds) until we reach the finish line. We are entirely committed to completing this film.
