All Sports Los Angeles Film Festival

Summary

About 20 some odd years ago I started out my professional career as a football coach.  After several years on the gridiron, I had a change of heart and left coaching.  I then made the transition into the arts as actor/director/producer working all levels from stage to screen.  Still having my passion for sports, I always wondered why no one started a film festival to highlight such a great genre.  HBO has Real Sports and ESPN has 30 in 30 (along with a small selection of films in the Tribeca Film Fest).  But no one had an event about all sports films.  So, after about five years of waiting to see if “someone would step up to the plate”, I bit the bullet and decided to do it myself.

As a filmmaker, I know what it’s like trying to get an audience to watch your film.  The majority of us don’t have the budget to distribute the film so we have to rely on festivals in the hopes of getting recognition.  A lot of the mainstream festivals are saturated with so many submissions that I feel a lot of great films don’t even get screened.  So I created this festival to specifically help filmmakers get a film up on the screen and help screenwriters get their scripts read.  Because it is such a niche genre, the filmmakers and screenwriters have the odds of being selected in their favor compared to other festivals where they are competing against everything.  

What We Need 

Every dime we make from the festival goes right back into the festival.  The staff and I are all volunteers.

With the funds we receive here, we’ll be able to:

 1.) Market the Festival. (Our current marketing only consists of website banner swapping, Twitter, Facebook, and t-shirts)

2.) Pay for Our Theater Use and Administrative Overhead

3.) Pay for Awards for the Filmmakers and Screenwriters

4.) Bring in Guest Speakers/Panelists for the Filmmakers and Screenwriters

5.) Provide Networking Opportunities Through Social Mixers

6.) Provide a Closing Ceremony/Fundraiser Gala

Every penny donated will help us bring down our costs.  So even if we don't reach our overall goal, we will be very content with whatever we make to help fund the above projects.

The Impact

We’ve given over 150 filmmakers from 31 countries the joy of their worked being screened and appreciated by our audiences.  We want to expand that and give them even more opportunities for exposure.  This festival will give life, breath and international exposure to the works of new/seasoned filmmakers and screenwriters.  For some it's the birth of their "dream" and may very well lead to jobs/careers.
