In today’s hyper-individualistic society, the idea of community is often an afterthought, if thought of at all. Seeking to bring a segregated culture together in Michigan's Capital region’s youth, a group of locally grown and internationally recognized artists aim to bring programming to the area that focuses on teaching the elements of Hip Hop, in hope of broadening the perspectives and opportunities of young artists in the community.
What We Need & What You Get
The programs are offered free to the community but will require a lot of time and resources from the academy. Our goal is to raise $60,000 to cover:
- A home-base facility,
- Promotions, etc..
If you are passionate about the arts and believe in its ability to enrich the lives of those who participate in them, we ask you to partner with us in our goal. Not only will you be supporting us financially, but you will have a direct impact on our youth, helping to provide them a perspective and dynamic culture they can use to promote positive change in our city.

Within its first year serving the community of Lansing, AOTA has already drawn attention from, and has had the opportunity to, serve media organizations, the City of Lansing, neighborhood organizations, community development projects, schools, at-risk youth facilities, art programs and various other efforts to build equity in the capital city. From the youngest student (6yrs) to our oldest (18yrs), each one of our participants are learning about the rich history and culture of Hip Hop, giving them the tools to develop in their craft with dynamic sessions/curriculum. The youth AOTA has served have also been given opportunities to engage the community in purpose driven artistic expression.
