Behind the story
This is a film I wanted to make for over 10 years already, when I first read the story of a dysfunctional couple in a newspaper. After one of them got deep into debt, without the other noticing for quite a long time, they decided to run off and kill themselves. Which wasn't a decision to be easily fulfilled. . .
Over the years the story changed quite a bit, became entirely fictional. And more subtle. But the essential points are still there: the strange fear, indetermination, inability to properly react to certain life events so that some insignificant everyday life problems can lead to catastrophe. Paired with communication difficulties. I've been partially exploring these subjects in my short films and plays already. Why? Maybe I can relate to some point. And possibly as a preparation for this project that now is my long-time companion and which should finally be concluded by doing what me and my collaborators have dreamed of - the first feature-length film.
This film really means a lot - not only to me but to the small team built around it as well. We have been thinking and planning for some months now on how to make this happen. Of course, $6000 for a movie of around 90 minutes isn't much. But it's possible. If the story is simple (but still strong), if you know how to get some stuff and services for free, with the help of friends and amiable film enthusiasts like you - everything can work. We just don't want to wait for years until some studio officials may or may not make a favorable decision. We're missing the spirit of the French New Wave and the New German Cinema, where people just started filming wether they had a budget or not. They just knew what they wanted. And quite often, the monetary restrictions led to different styles that still have a huge impact today and are among the most compelling moments of movie history. We don't need personal assistants, car chases and a catering service. We just want to make movies. And we're experienced in handling low budgets and making the best out of it. But we can't do this without you!
What We Need & What You Get
What we need is to rent some equipment: DSLR camera or better, digital field recorder, microphone, some lighting, props. We can tell exactly what types and models after we know how much we can raise. We already have been buying a couple of things ourselves, to get started and start rehearsing, but overdraft credits have a limit. In addition to all that we want to submit the film to as much festivals as possible, which means there are submissions fees etc. If we can make our goal or even surpass it, we'll be able not only to make the film better but also to send it out to more festivals, which is the chance of getting noticed.
In exchange for your help we have prepared some cool and unique rewards! Check it out!
Thank you so much for your help and support! Let's make this happen.
