First, thank you so much for taking a moment to connect to our story!
I want to start by saying: I realize this may look like an extended vacation to some of you. I want to be upfront about this perspective. For us it is a family looking for different answers to an old question, what is the body capable of with a disability. I want to paint a picture of daily discipline through yoga and mediation, with speech and home schooling added in there. Careful thought has been put into where we are going, as the state of Kerala is known as a healing center of India with less intensity than the northern states. AMMA's ashram is known to be one of the most western in how it operates as there are thousands of people from all of the world dedicating their time to spiritual connection. For me healing and spiritual connection are coming from the same seed. Being away from the daily grind, connecting deeply spiritually and offering a place of stillness for my boy and myself is my ultimate goal of this adventure. The question does this stillness offer more healing is then the hypothesis.
So we continue...
A brief background about us: I have been in the healing arts profession for the last 18 years. I specialize in bodywork, birth services and helping the body release trauma. I had Zane almost 7 years ago, who knew that what I did for a living would prove to support him in his healing journey. Zane was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy (spastic), specifically: PVL (periventricular leukomalasia) around his 2nd birthday. The way the neurological impairment shows up is definitely in his fine motor movements (fingers) and his ability to run and balance..please take a look at the video. In the behavioral area he has been diagnosed with Pervasive Sensory Disorder...along the Autism Spectrum. For us these diagnoses where information about what his body was going through. I truly feel Zane chose me as his mom, as I work with his body in finding balance daily through nutrition, bodywork. Plus, this new realm of healing the nervous system through yoga and meditation. Hence the journey we are on...I feel blessed that this inspiration came to me and passionate about what being on the otherside of it will look like for all of us.

I am passionate about seeing what the possibilities are in healing for Zane. For those of us with children with special needs or children in our lives in general, we know first hand what life can feel like when we are limited in how to support them in reaching their potential.
I believe in looking at life through different lenses. That each person is unique in what their soul may be needing to find the balance that it seeks.
I believe that NOW is the time to take some extra steps to create new possibilities for our children.
Zane is full of life and perserverance. If there is any thing, and I am sure there will be many, that I will be able to offer to another family from this immersion. Than I feel like I have listened to the gift Zane has given me in being his mom.
There are now more organizations that are holding the complimentary modalities to support CP and Autism. I invite you to look at Lance Armstrong's site..Livestrong and see the information on Yoga and CP. There is now a training specific to Yoga Instructors for children with Special Needs named..Yoga for the Special Child..www.specialyoga.com
The more tools we have in our bag of tricks the more we are able to offer hope and possibilities to the ups and down that life offers us.
Your support will offer this to not only you but our community at large.
For truly we are the village that holds the future for the children, we directly impact what is possible by how we see our own world.
