It's been a while! I hope you all enjoyed the summer, and are ready for a long winter.
The most frequent question I received while creating and releasing Actual Sunlight was this: When will it be available for Mac?
It is now available for Mac!
Also, it is in an open testing phase, which means that it can be downloaded for FREE! Please take a look at:
It was done in Unity 4, has cool new 3D graphics, and it represents an enormous amount of work.
If you've played the game, I wouldn't expect you to play it again - that being said, I sincerely hope that you will share it with anyone you know who might appreciate it, but who only has a Mac or Linux machine.
A big part of this is also to see if the game can potentially get Greenlit on Steam. If you have not yet voted for the game on Greenlight, I would ask that you please do so by visiting:
Please look forward to my next project, which I will be providing more details on soon. It is firmly in the works...
Thank you again for your support!
It saddens me to say that this will be the final update for those of you who generously supported Actual Sunlight. Once again, I wish to thank you from the bottom of my heart for your support in creating this project.
I will soon be disabling the download code that I provided to you as backers, so please download the game in the very near future. If you should happen to miss the window, please do just contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org and I will send you another download code directly.
I’m still in the midst of determining what my next project will be, but I hope to count on your support once again in the future. I also hope you will continue to support independent game development in the future, especially games that have a strong narrative component. Here are some great ones that I urge you to check out:

I’m pleased to announce that the final version of the game has now been released! Those of you who follow me on @willoneill may have seen this announcement go out.
I will be sending you all download codes shortly. I wish I could it right now, but I have no idea how to send a private message to backers only.
So I guess I’ll do it manually, which will be sort of painstaking. I may not get to this until tomorrow sometime – if you are literally sitting there and waiting for it as you get this, though, just write me an e-mail at email@example.com saying so and I will send it to you. Will probably be up until 2 a.m. or so EST.
Thanks again for all your support!
The final version of Actual Sunlight is almost here! Those of you who are in the Toronto area and attending Bento Miso’s BIT BAZAAR on May 11 will be among the first to have a chance at grabbing a final copy of the game. You can learn more about that event here:
Of course, as backers, you will also be getting the game for free – this is why I would encourage you to come out and say hello, but not purchase one of the lovely USB bracelets with the game on it from me.
Unless, of course, you really want to. :)
As for when the game itself will be releasing online, May 15 is still the target – obviously we are not yet Greenlit on Steam, but I am likely going to sell it through Desura for the time being instead. I don’t know if all of this will be worked out by May 15 or not, but rest assured that you will get your copies via a digital download on that day even if others cannot.
But I think things will work out.
In the end, I think you’ll be happy with the final version of the game. You’ve already seen a lot of the new art and music, but I’ve also done a fair amount of additional writing for the game – in the second half of it particularly – that I really think rounds out Evan’s character and even some of the other characters as well.
I look forward to your feedback, and – hopefully – I look forward to seeing you this Saturday at the BIT BAZAAR!
Please contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org with any questions.
A few exciting updates!
1. A slightly updated demo version of the game has now been posted on the site. This contains some (but not all) of the new stuff coming to the game, and it has been posted because I really want to let the others involved in the project have a chance to shine. This is because Actual Sunlight has received its most exciting piece of press to date, which is…
2. INCLUSION IN MACLEANS MAGAZINE! This may not mean much to those of you outside Canada, but Macleans is our major national news magazine. It’s been given a great write up in its print and online editions. You can check it out at:
3. Speaking of team members, I’m pleased to now introduce to all of you the exciting artists who have been a part of Actual Sunlight. Please check out some of their other work as well:
CG Art – Archia: http://archia.carbonmade.com/
Pixel Art – Alina Sechkin: https://www.facebook.com/alinasechkin
Music: Robin Ogden – http://www.ogresound.co.uk/
4. TWINE VERSION – I have extremely mixed feelings about it, but to allow Mac users to at least check out the writing of Actual Sunlight I have put together a Twine version of the game:
Again, this was really to capitalize on the Macleans article, but I will be polishing this alongside the main game as well.
5. Finally, I’m pleased to announce that Actual Sunlight will be translated into French! More information on this as it comes closer to completion.
Thanks, and hope you’re looking forward to the full release in May!
