A2VT (Africa to Vermont)
We are A2VT: Three young guys from Africa. When war broke out in our home countries, we were forced to leave. Eventually we arrived in Vermont, where we now live. Now that we are here, we want to show people what we can do. We have talents that up until now, only our close friends were aware of. We write songs. We sing. We rap. We have recorded our first album, “Africa, Vermont” with grant funding from the Vermont Community Foundation. And with your help, we can share our music with the world!
Who is in the group:
Said Bulle - My name is Said. I was born in Somalia, moved to Kenya as a refugee of war, and came to America in 2004, and now I live in Burlington. I started singing and writing songs in 1999. I always had the dream of singing in the studio and making music that makes people jump up and down. I sing and rap in English, Mai Mai, and Somali. My goal is to become a famous world artist, a man whose voice people love to listen to.
George Mnyonge - Hi, my name is George. I was born on June 8th, 1990 in Tanzania, Africa. I came to the USA in July of 2007, and now live in Winooski, VT. I started singing when I was 15 or 16 years old. My goal is to be an artist and to teach music to kids. I like to sing in my language, Swahili, as well as in English and Kirundi. I am studying music theory and learning to play piano.
Cadoux Dzingou - My name is Cadoux. I was born in The Congo in central Africa. I grew up with a single mother who struggled all her life to pay for my school and educate me. The reason that I came to the United States is because I wanted a better future. Music to me is a goal that I want to achieve; a mission that I have to accomplish. I lived in a different area I have seen a lot of things in my life so I want to give that as a message to the world, our motherland and to people that never lived with these experiences. Indeed, I would like to be a musician to share what I have as a message, and to educate. Beside that, I have a goal of bringing change to this world.
David Cooper is a graduate of Berklee College of Music, a member of the bands 46bliss and Mellow Yellow, and co-author of Captain Gravy's Wavy Navy, a children's musical that was featured in the NY Fringe and NY Musical Theatre Festivals. He moved to Vermont from NYC in 2007, and has been recording and producing local artists at his Creamy Goodness home studio in Burlington.
