Like many elementary schools do throughout the school year, our school is having a Scholastic Book Fair Dec. 3-7 where students can buy books. While this is great for many of our students, more than 50% of our student population are underprivileged children. So when it comes time to go shop at the book fair, some students browse and buy their favorites, while many of them sit on the sidelines and watch. It's just not fair. We all know that reading the most important skill to master in order for students to be successful. Our goal is to put 3 new books in the hands of every student at our school, and with your donation, be able to give our underprivileged students a "ticket to read" so they can select and take home books from the fair.
What We Need & What You Get
Our goal is to provide each of our underprivileged students a "ticket to read" that they can redeem at the book fair for 3 books. To do this, we need to raise $6,600. We'll consider our book fair to be successful when every student gets at least 1 new book. Since this program is organized by our PTA organization, your donations are also tax-deductible - a great benefit everyone needs at the end of the year.
This is a true "pay it forward" opportunity. Not only will your donation benefit our students, but Scholastic will match your donations through its All For Books program, and will donate 1 book for every dollar we raise to two national organizations dedicated to helping children, families and teachers acquire books and educational resources (Kids in Distressed Situations and Kids in Need foundation). If we reach our goal, that's 6,600 books. How great would that be that a school with a large underprivileged population can give charitably to others in need as well.
