Welcome to the Indiegogo project page for the Kayak Fishing Boondoggle. The Boondoggle is a FREE, family-friendly, four-day camping and kayak fishing event which occurs twice a year over extended holiday weekends in different locations.
The Boondoggle started a few short years ago when a handful of fishing buddies decided to get together for a weekend of kayak fishing. It has quickly grown to more than 300 kayak anglers from 16 states. Many of us became Internet friends first, through YakAngler's online kayak fishing forum or by participating in any one of KayakFishingRadio's nightly Internet radio shows. The Kayak Fishing Boondoggle brings us all together for a weekend packed with fun, fellowship, and fishing.
The goal of this project is to raise $10,000 which will be used to create a custom website with the necessary functionality to streamline all the processes involved in planning the Boondoggles, and provide an outstanding experience for attendees. "Why so much money?" you ask? "Why not just use a WordPress template?" Because a templated website isn't robust enough. They simply don't offer the necessary functionality, and the autonomy that we need.
The days of handling registrations on paper are over, along with the confusion, headaches, and mistakes that often accompany those archaic methods. Having our own event website would greatly facilitate the planning and execution of this free, family-friendly event, as well as increase attendance and decrease costs. In a nut shell, we need one solution to address multiple needs and help us navigate every aspect of the event management process so that we can focus our time on strategic decisions rather than repetitive, time consuming tasks.
We currently depend upon various third-party subscription websites to manage processes like attendee and exhibitor event registrations, dinner tickets, T-shirt and campsite sales, and vital communications, but none of the websites offer a complete solution. We spend a great deal of time manually editing registrations to meet individual attendee's requests; we import and export data between the websites, and we duplicate data on each of the sites. Not only has this become cumbersome and time-consuming, but we're concerned about the integrity of the data as a pieced-together process is inadequate and leaves room for error.
The website will be beneficial for attendees as well. They will be able to view accurate inventory, modify their registrations up to and during the event and print admission tickets listing their guests and all the items they purchased. This will also greatly expedite their check-in at the event.
We have set several key design goals that will not only make the Kayak Fishing Boondoggle's website extremely functional by streamlining all the processes involved in planning the Boondoggles, but it will provide an outstanding experience for attendees. Of course we want to hear your thoughts as well, as we will incorporate some of your best ideas into our development.
WEBSITE + MOBILE = A BETTER BOONDOGGLE EXPERIENCE
- Easy-to-use, self-service event registration
- Ability to modify your registration at any time, even during the event!
- Add or delete dinner reservations, shirt orders, campsites and more
- Expedient check-in at the event
- Find out where your group campsite is located and if friends in your group have arrived yet
- Plan special activities for your group or club and immediately get the word out
- Get instant access to updated event information so you don't miss a thing!
- And much more!
A Robust website with Mobile Functionality
Mobile is everywhere. It's part of our daily lives. Mobile has morphed from a nice thing to have into an essential, vital tool that Boondoggle organizers and attendees need to enhance their event experience. Surveys reveal that 91% of us keep our phones within three feet 24x7, and 84% of us couldn't go a day without our mobile device. Are you nodding your head in agreement yet?
Improved Attendee Experience!
The event website will accommodate viewing on any smartphone, tablet or mobile device. Having mobile-friendly access to the event website will be the ultimate time-saving tool that will empower the Boondoggle event planning team to be more efficient and help attendees before, during and after the event. Boondogglers will be able to make faster and smarter decisions about where they will spend their time and with whom - all on the fly. They'll be able to stay informed about changes in event activities, and will be able to plan special activities with their group or club during the event.
Improved Process & Efficiency!
From an organizational standpoint, mobile access to the website is essential to the organization and implementation of an event of this type and magnitude. It will deliver greater efficiencies, data accuracy and cost savings. "Where is my group's campsite and has anyone arrived yet?" No problem! Getting updates to this type of information will be instant.
Need we say more? A mobile website will help us overcome numerous roadblocks and help make our next event a success -- with your help, of course.
We can't build this website without you. We need your help! We know; this is a large undertaking, but we're up for it. Are you? Our goal is to raise $10,000 which will be used to create a custom website with the necessary functionality to streamline all the processes involved in planning the Boondoggles, and provide an outstanding experience for attendees. If you have more questions or require a further breakdown of costs, message us, and we will be happy to provide you with a cost allocation schedule.

The Kayak Fishing Boondoggle is a FREE, family-friendly, four-day camping and kayak fishing event which occurs twice a year over holiday weekends in different locations.
Unlike a fishing tournament, the Boondoggle offers educational workshops and demonstrations and kids activities throughout the weekend provided by participating exhibitors and vendors who also sell their products in the Boondoggle's Vendor Village.
Sponsors donate raffle prizes consisting of kayaks, paddling and fishing gear and accessories. The proceeds are donated to a charity like Heroes on the Water, which helps our nation's injured military personnel reintegrate with society through kayak fishing and the outdoors.
The Boondoggle is quickly taking center stage as a kayak angler's preferred choice for fun, relaxation, learning and collaboration. As we plan our sixth event, we expect attendance to far exceed 500 during daytime activities. Our partnership with the Perdido Key Chamber of Commerce, who is hosting the October event, will help drive daytime attendance to the Vendor Village and workshops and demonstrations, as will our friendships with local kayak fishing groups and outfitters.
Will you help fund our project? Can you say "Boondoggle?"
