Who Are We?
Thanks to all our contributors! Although we didn't make our goal, we're continuing our fund-raising campaign for this project on our own website. Come visit us at monmouthcivicchorus.org
The Monmouth Civic Chorus (MCC) is an independent community chorus performing high quality music since 1949, recognized by national and community awards, drawing its members primarily from the Monmouth County, New Jersey community. Performances encompass choral classics; innovative programming, including premieres, rare and contemporary music, and musical theater; the popular annual Christmas concert, with selections from Handel’s Messiah and well-known holiday music; Christmas carols around the community; and collaborations with arts partners. MCC has performed on tour in 11 European countries, and at numerous performance venues in the Northeast, including Carnegie Hall and St. Thomas Church in Manhattan; the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D. C.; PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel, N. J.; and the New Jersey Performing Arts Center and the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart in Newark, N. J.
The Monmouth Civic Chorus has experienced large concert attendance, positive reviews, growing chorus membership, and successful fund-raising campaigns. In addition to concerts, MCC performs a variety of community outreach events, including recitals by outstanding musicians. MCC has provided annual scholarships to students of outstanding vocal promise for several decades, with some of the scholarship winners already going on to distinguished music careers.

Our CD's Story
There’s just something about holiday music that lightens and brightens my mood. My musical memories from childhood are steeped in its warm glow. “Silent Night, “ “O Holy Night,” “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas”. I’ve been fiddling around with these tunes for as long as I’ve been able to play the piano. As a freshman in college, as soon as I had a singing group to work with, I wanted to arrange holiday music.
On my first Thanksgiving break, I sat down with blank staff paper and a pencil and got to work, producing the first version of the a cappella Silent Night we plan to put on this disc. I’ve been at it ever since. Last year I had the pleasure of putting together several arrangements for MCC, which we performed at our December 2012 concert. We featured several new arrangements at our December 2013 concert. Our patrons loved them so much that we realized we needed to collect them on a CD recording.
We want you to be able to enjoy this beautiful, heart-warming music throughout the holiday season – or year round! We’ve put together a group of tunes that feature the beautiful sound of MCC a cappella as well as lush, sparkling orchestral tracks. Help us create a new holiday treasure!

What We Need
Why $6,500? We are looking for help to get us the initial funds needed to begin the process of creating this wonderful CD to share with our friends, family, and the community in which we serve. The following are the costs that we are expecting over the lifetime of producing the CD:
- The cost of having an orchestra for the recording session is the largest cost associated with the production of our CD. Aside from the initial costs of $12,000 for us to hire the orchestra for a day, there are ongoing costs related to royalties, etc. which is expected to be about $3,000.
- When choosing sound engineers to record and master, not only is experience paramount, but the recording equipment is also an important consideration. The total cost for a sound engineer is expected to be about $4,500.
- A large choir such as ours requires us to rent out a large space, while keeping in mind the acoustics, and is expected to cost us about $1,000-1,500 for 2 days of recording.
- Other miscellaneous costs include CD production, distribution costs, etc. of about $2,000.
Total expenses for the project are projected to be about $29,000, so every dollar you contribute goes a long way. Also, if your employer matches your donations, that helps us even more!

The Monmouth Civic Chorus is simply one of the best community choruses in America. And don’t just take our word for it: the media called us "close to perfect" (Asbury Park Press), "alive and evocative" (The Star-Ledger) and "exceptional" (Red Bank Green). We even won 2 awards (the 2008 ASCAP/Chorus America Alice Parker Award, and the 2010 Spinnaker Award for Arts and Culture from the Eastern Monmouth Area Chamber of Commerce). We’re a non-profit with no office and no paid administrative staff; in fact, all the planning, research, graphic design, marketing and logistics for our new CD are being done by volunteers. But we have to pay up front for things like the recording engineer, the orchestra, and the hall rental, many months before we can sell CDs to earn back those expenses. That’s where you come in: your donations will keep us “in the black” and put an extra smile on our faces as we sing. We’ll thank you with a free digital track, free CD or even free concert tickets for the most generous donors out there. And think of the thousands of people who will enjoy our finished CD next year, all because of you!
