My name is Helyx Chase, this project is part of my Division III (senior thesis) Project at Hampshire College, Re-Mapping Our (his)Stories. I am a video artist, youth worker, community organizer and activist. I have been working on this project for a year now. Re-mapping Our (his)Stories is an interactive multi-media project. Through youth programming, personal artistic practice and web design, Helyx Chase and the Midnight Media Coup (midnightmediacoup.com) are developing a multi layered tool for not only analyzing but also creating a history based on a multitude of experiences.
I have been running a pilot curriculum with a youth group at my home synagogue, Mishkan Shalom in Philadelphia. Throughout the year the youth have participated in workshops where we have analyzed what community and history mean to us and then have begun to create an archive of our synagogues history through time-lining and interviews with founding members. The project with these youth has been incredible and in order to effectively distribute this model I am creating a curriculum toolkit that will provide workshop and program structure, activities and multi-media tools.
As an artist I have been engaging with themes of history and family with a specific focus on how people document their own histories. The result of this is an interactive installation/exhibition that will premiere in the main gallery at Hampshire College April 7th and 8th and hopefully will be traveling to other locations in the near future.
Through collaboration with a web developer, the last component of this project is an online archive to house interviews, pictures, writing and other artifacts of community history. The archive is different from current online tools because it displays these artifacts using geographic and data mapping thus helping to reveal patterns and cycles in history.
There is strength and power in the stories of our experiences. This project is a tool so that we can unite to create change using the power of our stories.

Why do I need to raise this money?
In previous campaigns and through grant funding I have already raised $1,000. The goal of this campaign is to raise money to directly support the completion of the interactive multi-media installation as well as promotion of the project as a whole, such as:
