Nick Blakeman, an alcoholic, suicidal loner, witnesses the brutal murder of reporter Jessica French. Jessica was covering a local serial killer and is believed to be his latest victim. Nick quickly becomes obsessed with her murder and launches his own investigation.
While researching the case, Nick is disturbed to learn that he and the killer have something in common: a psychological profile. Like a moth to the flame, he is drawn closer and closer to the source of the murders until he becomes a target himself...
A Flash of the Blade will truly be an 'American Giallo,' paying homage to the great Italian murder mysteries from the 1970s and early '80s...
For the uninitiated, 'Giallo' (pronounced 'JAH-lo') films were horror/thrillers known for their stylish camerawork, unusual musical scores, and over-the-top violence. Their influence can be seen in the American 'slasher' films of the 1980s and even in mainstream thrillers like David Fincher's SE7EN.
You can quote us on this: A Flash of the Blade will be the next Deep Red...the next Tenebrae. Director Scott Symons is a life-long horror and giallo fan, and he is obsessed with re-creating the magic of the classic Argento, Bava and Fulci films, while still making a film that will stand on its own. John Steiner (from Tenebrae, Shock, and over 100 other European films) is even attached to play a supporting role, and we're in the process of getting other 'cult' actors involved.
Don't be fooled by our budget: A Flash of the Blade will indeed look like a 'real movie.' It will be shot on Hi-Def by Emmy-winning director of photography Scott Spears, who has over 20 years of experience shooting commercials, music videos, and feature films (including Bret Michaels' A Letter from Death Row).
We firmly believe that we are doing something special with Flash. If you're tired of 'torture porn,' soulless remakes, and all the other tired trends dominating the genre today, and you want to see something a little different from your average Horror film, we ask that you support this film.
What We Need & What You Get
We are in the process of raising $25,000 to cover exterior shooting (and a few interior scenes) in mid-Michigan in April. We will then hold a second fundraiser to cover the rest of the interior shooting, post-production, etc. Much of the cast and crew on this film are working for reduced fees, and the producers and director aren't taking a salary at all. As a matter of fact, we'll be putting several thousand dollars of our own money into the film. A Flash of the Blade will truly be a labor of love. We will do whatever it takes to complete this film!
As you can probably imagine, we need all the help we can get and can't make this film without YOU, the fans! You can donate as little as $1 (and believe us, every single dollar really does help and is greatly appreciated), but for select amounts, you can receive some incredible VIP perks, including a DVD of the film, posters, t-shirts, and even the chance to appear in the film and get a "Producer" credit!* Posters and t-shirts will be available 6-8 weeks after your donation is received, with all other perks being available after the film is completed, which is expected to be Spring of 2012.
*All "producer" credits given away through this fundraiser are honorary and do not imply ownership in the film or creative control (although your input will certainly be welcome!).
(NOTE: Donations to this film project are NOT tax-deductible.)
