Hello Lovelies! I’m Nancy Li, founder of Charity4Couture; a nonprofit organization that takes donated clothes, refurbishes them (such as studding, cutting, sewing, etc.), and then sells them on my website. Best of all, proceeds will be donated directly to St.Jude's Research Hospital and the Hirshberg Foundation.
A little bit about me: I am currently a junior at Chino Hills High School. I have a love for styling clothes and walking dogs. I grew up volunteering around my community and giving back has always been my way of life. I was taught that it was important to do the best I could for my community. This charity integrates my love for fashion and my passion for philanthropy!
It all started when I was in the third grade - my Mom took me to a thrift store and I immediately loved everything there! From the funky jewelry to the unique pieces, I knew no one had this stuff. Ever since, I’ve found timeless pieces at the thrift store you would normally find at a regular store for 10x the price! So I thought I could find really cute clothes, style/modify them, and sell them. I mean, why can’t everyone afford cute stuff while contributing to a great cause?
We're looking to raise $3000 which will cover initial expenses such as materials, fees, marketing, and shipping costs. Any remaining donations from the campaign will be added to the St.Jude's Research Hospital and the Hirshberg Foundation fund.
What you guys get is a bunch of great perks! All the perks on the sidebar are personally handmade by me; they are unique and can be giftwrapped for a special someone. Also, you will feel all warm and fuzzy knowing that you are supporting a great cause! Look to your right for more info :)
*Note: Perks will be similar but not identical to above pictures
I started this charity to raise money and benefit St.Jude’s Research Hospital and the Hirshberg Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research
And you may ask why I picked these two foundations. Every year, the Let It Be Foundation holds an event called the Dance of Hope. This event is held in order to make money for children with cancer and their families by having groups of dance teams perform and fundraise for them. Dancing for these kids really called attention to the importance of finding cures for cancer, especially in children. 3 out of 10 children will lose their battle with cancer every year and that’s definitely an alarming number! Supporting the research of cancer will hopefully lower that number.
Another charity I chose to donate to is the Hirshberg Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research. A friend of mine lost his father figure who basically raised him and I saw the impact that pancreatic cancer has over families. Annually, an estimated 44,030 Americans will be diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and over 37,660 will die from the disease. Also, pancreatic cancer has the highest mortality rate of all major cancers: with 94% of patients dying within five years of diagnosis and only 6% survive more than five years. If we can contribute to the cure or at least fund research, then one of these days pancreatic cancers won’t be so fatal.
Additionally, I will be posting a poll on my website annually to determine which charity the proceeds will donated to for the following year.
You can always tell all your friends and family about this charity! What's most important is getting the word out so we can raise the money for these two foundations! You can use the Indiegogo share tool or check out our pages below! I want to thank my brother Richard for kick starting this with me and guiding me through it all. Also to Hector Espinoza for filming, shooting, and editing. Lastly, to those who have donated clothes to the website!
