Introduction and Background
Hello there and welcome to my Indiegogo campaign.
My name is Sherry Konkus also known as The Owosso Harpist. I am an amateur harpist from Owosso, MI who owns a 26 stringed harpsicle harp I play music on. It is the only harp I own. With numerous musical pieces arranged for harps with more strings out there, just playing on a small lap harp is not enough. What I really want to play alongside my harpsicle harp is a beautiful grand concert harp just like the one Harpo Marx played in the classic Marx Brothers movies.
Ever since I was a little girl growing up in Owosso, MI, I dreamed of playing a wonderful concert grand pedal harp I just couldn't get enough of seeing pictures of in dictionaries, encyclopedias, story books, and on TV. In 1991, I finally got a chance to play the harp, but the harp I end up playing was an unwanted rental Lyon & Healy Troubadour Lever Harp which was not the harp I want to play. But I played it anyway unhappily for 6 years until I was able to give it back to where the harp came from. I never wanted to play on a Troubadour harp to begin with. Years later in 2003, I finally got a chance to rent a concert grand harp from a music store in Clawson, Michigan. The moment I played the instrument, I fell in love with it and began striving to afford keeping the instrument. But then after renting the harp for two years, I had to send it back because I couldn't afford to rent it any longer. Later I got to rent another concert harp from a music place in Florida, played it, and grew to love it as well. But like the first one, I had to send the second harp back to Florida because I couldn't afford to keep it any longer.
Me back when I first rented a concert harp.

One Major Problem
I grew to love concert grand pedal harps, such as the Lyon & Healy Style 15 semi grand and the Venus Classic concert grand I love them so much that I just had to get one for my very own. But unfortunately there is one major problem -- concert grand pedal harps are MONSTROUSLY EXPENSIVE!! They cost between $10,000 to a whopping $250,000 depending on make and model regardless of whether they're new or used. Therefore, I am turning to you who are musicians and music enthusiasts for help.
I cannot raise all of the money needed to buy a concert grand harp alone. Here's the reason why. I live on a very low income made up of only working 20 hours a week at Mental Health and getting $1,100 a month through Social Security, which is just enough to pay for groceries, rent, and bills. Financial support from friends and family is also an unlikely option to take due to them having either bad credit, low income, or both. And finally, although I have good credit, my credit is severely limited to where every time I try to sign up for a loan I always have to have a co-signer available to be approved for a loan, which is what I don't in fact have. All these hindrances is what's keeping me from purchasing and owning a concert grand harp whether it's new or used.
But with your help and support, performing on my own concert grand harp will be possible!
How Much And Where It's Going
The campaign goal is set at $10,000. Every contribution you make will allow me to purchase a wonderful concert grand harp in excellent/perfect condition and use it to help me further my career as a harpist. It doesn't matter how big or small your contributions are -- every dollar counts!
The Cost of Accessories
The concert grand harp isn't the only thing that needs to be fully funded. Harp music and accessories also needs to be fully funded as well. I've already have some harp accessories which I bought over the years when I used to rent concert grand harps such as 2 music stands, the Mahler and the Manhasset, 2 harp cart dollies, a wonderful harp bench, lots of harp music arranged for the concert grand harp, a tuning key and holder for the key, and a Snark tuner. But I still lack some things which I need to make my harp accessory set complete. Here's the following accessories I need:
- A 3 piece harp cover set - for the column, base, and the whole harp itself
- Harp Column Guard - to protect the harp's column
- Brass Wire cutters - for cutting wire strings
- Large and Small Dusting Brush - for dusting the harp
- Dusty Strings Pedal Harp Pick-up - for amplifying the harp sound
- Ultrasound Amplifier - Also for Amplifying harp sound
- String Bag - for holding extra strings
- A full set of harp strings - including non-tarnish wire strings
What You'll Get From This
Anyone who gets involve with this campaign will have a wonderful opportunity to be awarded with these following perks: A video download, an MP3 download, a CD containing 12 MP3 harp music files, DVD containing one full hour video of me performing several songs on the concert grand harp (both will contain a Hall of Fame jpg file containing a list of those who helped make my campaign is big success), and 4 live performances at various places in Owosso, MI. These are the only perks I can come up with! Feel free to pick out the one that suits you the best.
Please help me raise funds so that I may purchase the type of harp that I require to help me further my career as a harpist. It has always been my dream to be able to play the harp and share the beautiful music it creates with others. In this very tough economy, money is in short supply, especially when it comes to supporting the arts; and musicians like myself who have the passion and drive to keep the art of live performance alive for current and future generations. However, I cannot raise all of the money alone. I need the support of my fellow musicians, as well as music enthusiasts, to help me reach the goal of raising more than $10,000. This amount would allow me to purchase a pedal harp which I can use to continue to play beautiful music, as well as support myself. Please become a valuable part of my Indiegogo campaign to keep the performing arts alive, help create special moments, and provide entertainment for others in the community whether it's during the Christmas season, festivals, church services, or at local events. I am reaching out to all of those people who have had a dream that is almost bigger than life, just like me, and to those who know how difficult life can be when low income can devastate such a dream. Supporting the arts is a worthy cause! Please support my cause with your donation in any amount you choose. Every dollar counts toward my goal! My journey with the harp has been a lifetime in the making, and your donation can help my dream of making beautiful harp music a reality.
