We are both artists in different genres; Ty is a painter and a writer, Kristopher is a filmmaker and story teller.  A specific musical act out of Denton, TX has captivated the both of us in similar ways.  The music, the story, and each of the musicians that make up this group have inspired us to create a piece of art sharing their story, their creative process and the art form behind their sound.

"As a visual artist (a painter), I am "one" individual who stands before a canvas with my own thoughts and my own experiences.  I am alone when I start a painting and alone when I complete a painting.  I have always been intrigued by a group of musicians who can come together to create a “work of art” in sound.  There are six musicians that make up Seryn, they are all different, all extremely creative and talented in their own musical skill sets.  Kris and I want to tell the story about how Seryn stands before a blank canvas as six artists, and through creative process, joys, frustrations, commonality, experience and multiple other emotions visually show how they create a brilliant canvas of sound." Ty Clark

As Seryn moves towards recording their next album, the filmmakers will capture what makes them who they are, how the music comes together in its art and brings out their individual stories.  Not only will they follow this journey through visual story telling, but we will end the film with a powerful live performance of Seryn playing in a full fledged Orchestra Style Venue that will revolve around a new body of work and expand upon their current music with a few new and exciting elements.  (Below is a picture of the amazing venue that the show will take place in.)

We are also more than excited that Seryn will be recording and producing an original score for the film.

Seryn is a 6 piece band who calls Denton, Texas their home. Their sound is full of well layered textures of guitars, ukulele, accordion, bass, viola, banjo and various percussion. The band's strength resides in their vast musical talent, education and understanding of dynamics. Their beauty is gracefully displayed through chilling harmonies. Each member and their voice carry the same importance. One is not complete without the other.

It is in this craft that the young band shines so bright. It has earned them a sound that isn't easily defined, but still proven triumphant. What may first appear as straight folk songs, later transcend into menacing walls of sound. 

I believe Josh Jackson, Editor in Chief at Paste Magazine says it best, “I fell in love with this band’s recorded music just in time to book them for our SXSW day parties, and they dominated the showcase. I don’t know what they put in the water in Denton (fellow Dentonite Sarah Jaffe also slayed), but the majestic swells make it feel like you’re watching Arcade Fire before their first album.”

• Travel expenses for the production team during Seryn’s studio sessions and touring.

• Hard Drives to store and back up our footage.

The film download and original soundtrack by Seryn will be completed by the end 2013.  All backers will be kept up to speed on film progress and will receive information to follow our official blog as well.

Absolutely! The more we raise, the more hands on deck we will have to make the film even more spectacular.  Exceeding our goal will help us  to market and distribute the film in other cities outside of TX and it will give us the ability to enter it into festivals.
