Welcome and Hello, My name is Derrell Winowich and I am opening a new nano scale brewpub in Phenix City, AL. I have been a homebrewer for more the 15 years now and a few long years ago, decided to make my passion a business. Basically, my wife said I couldnt spend any more money on the "Hobby" and needed to either take my friends advice and open a brewery or just continue with the equipment I had.
That was all the reason I needed to move forward.
I began working on the location we found ( formerly a coffee shop) on the banks of the Chattahoochee River nearly a year ago, and have made a ton of progress. We have been awarded our TTB brewers notice, have much of the equipment we need and are almost completely finished with the building. With your help, we can go from creating a small, low volume craft brewpub into something that would excite and interest so many more people. Our plan is to offer our beers and as many local and hard to find taps as our walk in cooler and brewery will support, we have 6 dual faucet shanks running into our cooler and will open with 12 taps flowing as many of our own brews as possible, but with a nice selection of other beers from Alabama, Georgia and the rest of the southeast as we can. Now this is where you come in.......
What We Need & What You Get
We need your help to raise as close to $20,000 as we can get if not more, stainless steel tanks are an expensive but necessary part of this industry if you want to make the best beer possible and we wouldnt be doing it otherwise......
We need your help to make this final push before opening in a month or so.
While we are still waiting on the states "ok" to get started, we found some shortcomings in our system that really need some attention. First, we purchased 2 really nice 3 barrel stainless steel unitanks (fermenter/brite/serving tanks) and a glycol unit capable of serving them, problem is, it looks like we will run out of beer very quickly given the interest this little project has created in our area. We really need at least 2 more tanks and a real professional plate chiller to cool it all down. Also our glycol chiller is undersized and when we install new tank capacity it would need to be upgraded. That along with several other little items would send us into this beery world with a much better chance of success and the capacity to make sure everyone that visits our little pub, has more than enough beer selection.
I thought long and hard about why someone would help someone they didnt know achieve their dreams, and I hope I will be able to live up to the high standard I set for myself and the people that will be working here. With that, I tried to come up with some out of the box ways of supporting our supporters, and I think we've done that.
1. We obviously wont be able to hand people tshirts, glasses, caps or other merchandise on the first day we open, so please stay with me on this. I want to give every contributor as much in the way of perks as possible, but I also have to remain within the law. In Alabama, it is illegal to give away alcohol for any reason but a tasting session, so thats what we will do. As soon as our first beers are ready, we will host a private tasting session with tasty food as well as beers for you to sample to your hearts content. Hopefully one of our friends in a band will show up and entertain everyone while we get our drink on that day.
2. Everyone that helps us will receive special merchandise; a commerative tshirt, a cap, some printed pint glasses and other stuff depending on how much they are willing to part with, but that stuff is nothing compared to the food perks and the membership into our Beer Club promotion which would allow frequent visitors to recoup their contribution over the long run.
Ok, now down to the nitty gritty, if we don't reach our full goal, I am committing to you folks that I will spend whatever money we do receive on as much brewery equipment and hardware as I can buy with that money. That's the ultimate goal, and I won't stop until this is a success and our local beer drinkers and friends from all over have a very unique brewpub with friendly, fast service and beer that will make you smile. We are in the beer business.......smile!
I can open this brewpub as it is without the added bells and whistles, but I wouldnt be happy about it and neither would customers wanting a pint or two of their favorite beer, only to find out it will be a week or two before its back. No one wants that, and I don't think that's in the best interest of the business either. With your support, and only with your support will this become a reality.
Your donations will have a significant impact on the area as well as on the beer selection and volume available. A small place like this will rely on its relationships with its friends, and will never succeed without their support. For that reason alone, I am asking for you to help as much as you can.
Other Ways You Can Help
I understand that the financial world we live in today is much more difficult than it was just a few years ago, and that some of you might not be able to donate your hard earned money. That said, you can also be a big help just by directing people to this campaign and yelling to the world about how these little local businesses will enhance the lives and spirits of the people it impacts. Tell everyone on Facebook, Twitter and every other social networking site you can think of to help spread the word about our little brewpub on the river project and help bring a real craft brewery to the valley area.
