Our mission is to enable and celebrate the art of film-making by providing a unique festival experience in the Bushwick neighborhood of Brooklyn, NY for filmmakers across the world to share their work. We also strive to use the festival as a vehicle for positive change. In the Brooklyn community, we host a variety of volunteer-led community events including a BFF hosted summer youth basketball tournament. Additionally, The Festival strives to promote positive change internationally. Each year, the BFF raises awareness to world issues by donating a portion of all profits to a carefully selected non-profit organization. This year (2012) we will be donating proceeds to One Liberia, an organization dedicated to empowering the youth in Liberia.
WHY WE <3 INDIE FILMMAKING:
Independent filmmakers contribute tireless enthusiasm and countless hours to realize a project of predominantly creative worth. They look beyond the obvious trends for a moment of clarity that can impact, and even transform, the present moment. The mantra and passions of these filmmakers pronounce the relentless ardor for imaginative output despite monetary or social obstacles. The D.I.Y sensibilities that accompany this venture encapsulate a grittiness relatable to the honorable underdog and his dreams of transforming the future.
