SF is a top choice for runaways, yet there is no concise central access to health info / cheap entertainment / social engagement. etc. The internet has an ocean of info but its often disperse, inaccurate hearsay, or woefully outdated.
I have the info, I have the art, I know the city, I know the best local bands. I felt it had to be done. So I did it.
Now you don't have to be "the health nut" to know how to get free vaccines, city insurance, or know whats in-season & local.
You don't have to be "the political one" to know your local reps number, or what companies are still anti-gay, or what your rights at work are.
Now you don't have to "be connected" to be informed. (paper y'all)
You don't have to remember free museum days, concerts, events, or perks for locals.
All that can be right there in your Daily Planner. Framed with local art, games, local history, & a bunch more stuff.
You can see what's inside farther down. First, let's get down to business:
It's IN MY COMPUTER now, and getting better, but it needs to be printed soon so it can go in zine stores & send it out. 2014 is approaching quickly. I also want to give piles away to orgs that serve the poor youth (u can buy a copy for the 'give-away'-pile cheaper than for yourself). This is why I need your help:
Based on the cost of the first version in 2012, i need $7000.
printing & binding 2,000 copies ($5000),
pressing the CD ($1000)
ruler ribbon & app publishing fees ($500)
shipping to 500 to households ($1000 if I'm lucky)
and of course indiegogo fees. ($500-$840).
as you can see $7000 doesn't quite get there. I hope I will be able to make this difference up by selling in zine store. This is not my get-rich-quick scheme. This is a thing that I feel needs to exist, and I am the person that needs to put it together,
I know I can do it, cause I've done it before.
i wanted it to be BEAUTIFUL... so me & my talented friends helped fill it with art on every page.
i wanted it to be EMPOWERING.... so i made
sure it had democracy hacks: your (SF) rights at
work, whistle-blowers resources, local politician info, voter registration, boycott lists, medicine hacks, etc
i wanted it to be USEFUL... so i filled it with essential info for locals: Last Bart, 24hr diners, muni-map, etc.
I wanted it to be FUN....so it's got tons of guides to free weekly open mics, pub quizzes, comedy nights, jam sessions, oyster happy hours, etc.
i wanted it to be an ALMANAC... so i filled it "today in local history", celestial events, voting days, prophecies, local celeb b-days, free concerts, free events, free days at local attractions, etc. There's even a menstrual tracking calendar.
i wanted it to be MUSICAL..... so i included a CD of excellent unheard local bands, 12 chords charts & music theory worth having on you.
wanted it to be useful to POOR FOLKS... so there's guides for peeps w/o
smartphones, free vaccine programs, harm reduction, hotlines &
local resources, free food, etc. If you look at the incentives, you'll see at-cost rewards that fund the book going to org's that serve the community.
We're almost there. Let's get it on paper & make it a successful addition to the community consciousness.
