The video above is the short video that started it all. We want to turn this short film into a feature film and can't do it without your help.
Check out the Dog Files for more great info about dogs.
Our Story
Pit Proud: The Movie has one main goal, to throw a light on the harmful pit bull myth that pits are some kind of dangerous land shark, that they are just "powder kegs" ready to blow at any moment.
We've all seen this thought process in action. Even if your dog just resembles a pit bull, you've probably had people run away from you as you took your dog for a walk.
Now if this was the ONLY result of thirty years of gang culture and media hype, we could probably live with it.But fear always seems to turn into some sort of brash, thoughtless reaction and in the case of the pit bull, it's literally killing them.
Across America and the World, the "pit bull" breed is being banned, taken from their owners and many times, put down. Not because they did anything wrong, but because they were born, what the government has deemed, the wrong breed of dog.
A dog that was once used to embody the American Spirit on World War 1 posters is now being rounded up and killed.
And the only way out of this horrible situation is the slow and steady process of education.
What Will We Be Filming
Pit Proud: The Movie will start where the short video left off. We we travel the country, showcasing Pit Bulls that are doing extraordinary things. Such as Police dogs, Bomb-sniffing dogs, Frisbee Champion dogs, Service dogs, etc. We want to show the world that Pits are loving, devoted animals that thrive on positive dog ownership.
Interweaved with this will be a more in-depth look into the history of the pit bull. The obstacles that many pit owners are facing in America, the politics behind Breed Specific Legislation, why they don't work and the use of false statistics and media-hype to condemn the breed.
We will also visit many of the Michael Vick Pit Bulls and see how they are faring.
We will be true, honest and frank about this loving, noble breed and the forces that are working against them.
The Impact
The Dog Files hopes that this film will be shown in schools and help kickstart an honest conversation about the pit bull myth.
We believe that our passion and honesty in telling this tale will help educate the masses and ensure that pit bulls will be apart of loving households for centuries to come.
What We Need
As the first phase of creating this documentary, we are trying to raise $32,000.00 through IndieGoGo. Filmmaking costs a great deal of money and we will be cutting corners as much as possible to make a financially responsible film.
What is the money going to?
1. IndieGoGo takes 4% if we reach our goal. If we don't reach our gola they take 9%.
2. Crew members will have to fly across the country to film the movie. We will have car rentals, hotel and gas fees and food costs. If you have connections to any of these items please let us know at pitproud@thedogfiles.com
3. Paying for a crew to film reenactment scenes. This also means actors, dogs, extra equipment, etc.
4. Acquiring the rights to news footage for the documentary.
5. Months of editing and post-production work.
What You Get
I hope, besides the PERKS you'll be getting to the right, that you'll feel that you've helped protect a loving breed that is worthy of our compassion. Because Pit Bulls are just dogs. No more, no less,
And like all dogs, they are individuals with different personalities and temperaments. But because of their intense loyalty and strong form, the pit bull has been singled out amongst lesser men to abuse and kill for their own cruel entertainment.
Then the media hype that ensues turns into huge ratings and scares folks who might have never even met a pit bull.
And that's where Breed Specific Legislation comes in.
You see, the pit bull problem isn't the dogs.
The pit bull problem is people.
