PEABOHEMIA : TOGETHER WHATEVER

Created and Performed by STEPHEN PEABODY & Co.

Directed and Choreographed by VICKY VIRGIN

Anticipated Premiere: June 2012 -- in New York, Minneapolis, or both -- stay tuned!

A unique blend of theater, music, dance and media, PEABOHEMIA is a brand of theatrical concert conceived by veteran performing artist Stephen Peabody to freshly develop the collisions of musical artifact, style & sentiment that had marked his contributions to other artists' interdisciplinary works for many years. The Peabohemia Performance Protocol has 3 parts: the sonorous, stark-yet-sweet presence of Peabody, anchoring an ensemble from behind the piano, often in a duet (or duel) with his recorded self; re-imagined yet emotionally resonant American popular music (any style or era is equal prey), offset with media and movement; and a conceit that the proceedings are unfolding in some warehouse in the future, for a remote, shifting, internet audience. Bouncing over borders between new & old, high & low, action & inaction, staged & impromptu and recorded/live, PEABOHEMIA is a carnival of time, place and emotion, sounding off and dancing around questions of nostalgia, technology, the marketing of love, and the nexus of commerce and art.

TOGETHER WHATEVER is the premiere evening-length theatricalization of the PEABOHEMIA audio theater CD Burlesque Ives in which Peabody set his sights on skewering songs from the '70s, the "kidney stone of a decade" that marked both his adolescent passage and America's zoned-out passage from the sunny, runny '60s to the chilly, steely '80s amidst new, uneasy arbitrations of sex, love, art and human rights. Smartphones and an antique Edison record player will be involved. So will VICKY VIRGINwho danced with ballet companies in St. Louis, Washington, D.C., New York and Montreal, and whose original work has been seen at HERE, Dixon Place, and the Baryshnikov Arts Center. I'm tickled pink as a cherry blossom to have her on board.

Take part in something truly unique.

PEABOHEMIA WILL NEVER BE THE SAME.
