Mike Vogels first feature film The Waiting List was hailed as Clerks meets The Breakfast Club by Quickstop Entertainment (a film website run by Clerks director Kevin Smith). With a style that mixes raunchy humor and touching emotional revelations, Vogel depicts comically uncomfortable moments played out against a modern and timely landscape.
The Waiting List premiered at the 2009 Phoenix Film Festival, followed by the Washougal International Film Festival, and is currently in consideration for other festivals.
Prior to writing and directing The Waiting List, Mike Vogel studied film and creative writing at the University of Oregon. He spent ten years working in various aspects of the video industry including editing, New Media distribution, and as the video operations manager for large scale corporate events. This combination of experience provided a solid creative and technical background, as well as the organizational skills needed to keep a creative production moving forward in a streamlined manner.
Mike Vogels film influences include Richard Linklater, the Coen Brothers, Sofia Coppola, Nicole Holofcener, David Wain, Woody Allen, Gus Van Sant, Kevin Smith, and Jim Jarmusch, just to name a few. These directors exhibit a personal vision that combines humor, intelligence and emotional depth to deliver insightful portraits of modern life.
