About Me

 

Mikel J. Wisler is an award winning filmmaker and long time partner with Andrew Gilbert. Together, they created Runaway Pen Productions. Four of the short films Mikel directed and produced with Gilbert have gone on to play in several film festivals and three have international distribution through various companies. Mikels awards and recognitions include:


  • Winner of Best Short Film at the 2011 Vegas Media Xpo (Evaluating Kaitly produced with Gilbert).


  • Winner of Best Screenplay at the 2009 Terror Film Festival (Cold October co-written with Gilbert).


  • Winner of 2007 Cinephile Film Arts Grant for the short film Cellar Door (co-written and produced with Gilbert).


  • Nominated for Best Horror Short Film at 2009 ShockerFest for Cold October (co-written and produced with Gilbert).


Mikel has worked on feature films in various crew capacities. Most notably, he was the 1st Assistant Director for the independent feature film, Silk Trees. He went on to cut the trailer for the film and become the final polishing editor for Silk Trees, helping reshape the story and pacing of the finished film. Mikel is currently an Associate Producer for the VFX-heavy feature film, The Legend of Oak Swamp & the Mysteries of Ironwood.


Mikel has a B.A. in Liberal Studies with concentrations in Writing, Theatre, and Cinematography and a B.A. in Philosophy from Bethel College, Indiana. He also attended the Los Angeles Film Studies Center (LAFSC) in 2003. Mikel was born in Brazil, South America, where he spent most of his childhood. He is married to Danae K. Wisler and lives in Weymouth, Massachusetts.
