Melvin: Chronicles of a Player

A spoof Mockumentary about the trials and tribulations of self-confessed "Player", Melvin Cartright and his long suffering twin brother Martin

Help our Award-winning film raise completion funding

The Melvin Story

Melvin started off life in 2002 as an award winning 15min comedy short film called Melvin: Portrait of a player.  Shot in black and white and completely improvised, it managed to win a legion of fans both in the UK and in the US enjoying successful screenings at various festivals including, BFM film festival, Buffalo Black and Asian Film Festival, Peep Show and the Pan African Film Festival at both their LA and Atlanta festivals.
In 2007 we decided to take the plunge and shoot a feature length version, called "Melvin: Chronicles of a Player".  We're very close to completion, but as is often the case, we just need a little more help to realise the finished article.  We definitely think we've got something special, if reaction to screening of the rushes is anything to go by.  The rough-cut of Melvin: Chronicles of a player has already won an award bagging Independent Spirit award at the 2009 Screen Nation Awards.

The Synopsis

Melvin Cartright is your typical self-confessed womaniser, self-assured, cocky and arrogant, who truly believes hes Gods gift to women.  When Melvin isnt chasing every female in sight, hes pursuing a music career with his twin brother Martin under the watchful eye of his manager Olumuyiwa Dave Akimunde.  So, when a documentary crew seeking to make a fly on the wall documentary about womanising men approach the twins manager about featuring Melvin in it, he agrees thinking it will be great publicity for his label and his various other artists.  Little does he realise that the only thing they will be documenting is Melvins life disintegrating before their eyes, and just when they think it can't get any worse, it does in the form of the W.A,M., Women Against Melvin!

The Team

Melvin is an ensemble piece, many of the cast have been working together since the first short film was made way back in 2002!  As such we're more like a family, and this project is definitely just the first of many great feature length projects to come.  Over the years the films we have made together (primarily shorts), have been extremely successful winning collectively 16 international awards and countless screenings.  Completing this greatly anticipated project (we have letters of intent from several exhibitors regarding screenings), would definitely serve as a stepping stone to bigger and better things.

What We Need

The money we hope to raise will help pay for:

  • Shooting several additional scenes and post-production
