Why We’re doing this.
Cape Town Is known as one of the most stunningly beautiful & glamorous cities in the world. During Fifa 2010 the whole world will be dazzled by the incredible soccer that will be displayed on the shimmering grass. But less than 20 minutes away, Cape Town has another world. In this world 80% of the kids grow up without a father. In this world 90% of the Adults are addicted to ‘tik’ – home made crystal meth that is made out of drain acid and pool cleaner.
This is a world of rape and violence. This is a world of little hope.
This is the Cape Flats & is the 2nd largest Gang area in the world.
When we met a man called Mario, & heard how in 10 years hitting the streets, he’s already rescued 1,000 kids from the clutches of gangs, drugs & violent crime we were impressed.
When he told us he did it through Soccer we were spell bound.
When we met the boys & young men that had been changed by him & heard their stories we were humbled & felt that we had no choice but to help.
What the Film is About
Mario & the Rude Boys is an uplifting 1hour documentary delving into the stories of Mario & 5 men who’s lives have been transformed by Mario’s determination to dream for them until they learn to dream for themselves.
Mario, (a reformed gangster) created great Commission United (GCU) a soccer academy dedicated to winning the hearts & minds of youth through Soccer.
When Mario spots special soccer talent Pitta, a member of the Rude Boys, he sets out to target the gang, challenging them to a soccer match.
How You Can Help.
Two and half years in the making, we’re almost finished and just need to pay for our final expenses.
They are:
- Last stage of Post production
- Audio Mix, effects and layback
- Graphics and Titles sequences.
- Marketing to get distribution on Television.
- Entries to film festivals
This amounts to $6000.
Every $1 above our expenses will go straight to Mario & GCU.
By helping us finish the film, you’ll be making sure we get his mission known throughout the world.
30% of proceeds from the sale of the film will also go directly to Mario & GCU.
We hope that the power of these stories will be compelling to potential donors, so that Mario (who relies entirely on donations) can stop 300 kids from being turned out on the street.
