Marilyn is an original piece of inter(act)ive dinner/ dance/ story theater that explores our relationship to our bodies through the vehicle of Marilyn Monroe. Alison Haracznack and Bonnie Gabel of Night Light Collective have been working on the piece for 8 months, and it is set to premiere in a home in the Marigny at the New Orleans Fringe Festival this November.
Our Story
We both have battled with body image most of our lives, turning to extreme measures-anorexia, bulemia, and self mutilation- to fit into an impossible mold. As we mature into out twenties we find other women, men, boys, and girls struggling with this impossible standard. What are we ashamed of? Why is it so hard to look honestly and lovingly at our own naked bodies? How can we deconstruct what is beautiful, and create a space for all of us to love our bodies in all of their individual glory? Join us for the ride (and put a bit of your two-cents in as well).
The Impact
Marilyn is trying to bring a little bit of healing, hope, and glitter to all the dark spots wrapped around how we view our bodies. You can help us buy the glitter.
