The Maison des Chats Jazz Loft will be a 4-floor performance space in Brooklyn, NY committed to supporting and sustaining the artists, communities, and cultures that engender jazz. Through a number of Maison Programs we will be providing artist housing, rehearsal space, paid performance, gallery exhibits, industry networking opportunities, free community outreach workshops for local schools and the general public, a street support initiative, and biannual fundraiser for local need-based groups.
This is a HUGE project, but we have already received fiscal sponsorship from Fractured Atlas*, and the funding we raise through IndieGoGo will allow us to start out first ever Maison performance series! These will be monthly live music events at our temporary space while we apply for grants, build our community, buy and rebuild our final space, and FUNDRAISE!!! These events will include gallery showings of local artists, photography, videography, and sound recordings for our Maison archives, and will be by-donation-only!
Right now we have a perfect space, but we need YOUR HELP! to secure it, rent it, insure it, furnish it, pay musicians, fund the catering, planning, and advertising, buy instruments and sound equipment, and put out epic shows with musical geniuses, phenomenal collaborations, and sounds that will make history!
We are also taking this time to program our H.M.M.M Initiative. This is an incredibly cheap online program that will streamline musicians' needs for networking, finding gigs, collecting and updating fans, and at the end of the day, support their business while giving them back their time to make ART!
Art and survival often seem to exist hand-in-hand. And too often, the act of surviving becomes too exhaustive for artists to attain the resources that allow them to effectively create, innovate, and seek out positive change in the world.
I believe that jazz was once a revolution, and I truly believe art can change the world. Maison des Chats will strive to create the space and resources needed to stimulate the revitalization of these truths. Maison des Chats will cradle artists and their local communities so that both can evolve, one hand feeding the other.
