Our Story

My name is Marc I. Daniels. I am the Screenwriter/Executive Producer/Actor and Director of this film. I also run LittleNapProductions. I thank you sincerely for your consideration in helping to make this project, which has been in development for a full year now,  come to life.

Formed in 2010, Little Nap Productions is focused on providing high-quality, independently made films catering to the non-union performer, writer, film technician and others -- giving all of our talent a creative and supportive environment in which to polish their skills and gain valuable exposure.

Misery's Last Day is a dark, socially relevant drama intertwining several different people whose lives, for better or worse, cross paths. The films storyline is taken mainly from the point of view of its central character DREW a young independent lesbian in her early twenties who has suffered in her personal life and who has been embittered by the raw, everyday encounters with customers and co-workers in a discount retail store environment where equal opportunity seems to apply only to male management. She encounters another female; a cute and flaky young girl whose direction in life is questionable. Misery's Last Day weaves an intricate web of love, hate, social unrest and betrayal that eventually explodes into a fascinating and powerful climax.

Little Nap Productions has thus far assembled a tremendously talented and motivated crew for this project. Specifically, my goal in hiring was to have a weave of crew members who all know each other by no more than two degrees of separation. I am pleased to say that over 90% of the crew thus far have either been personal friends, or have worked together on one or more projects in the past. This, in my opinion, ensures trust, comfort level, and harmony regarding the demanding hours and pressures of being on set. All of these people have been carefully hand selected by me. One of the criteria used was their deep-seated love for the art of film as a whole. Not to mention personal pride taken in their work on a film project. I feel very fortunate to have this group of folks working with me, as each one of them has extensive experience in their respective trades, and are willing to work for much less than their actual work. That is a large part of why the budget for this piece is so reasonable. This project is my baby and I have put exorbitant amounts of time and effort into it, so rest assured I will only work with people of this magnitude who meet my high standards. I am a big believer in giving credit where it's due in any capacity, and also to never "cheat" the audience by cutting corners or having inconsistent continuity. This is why I have brought on one of the best eyes in the indie business as the Continuity Supervisor.

We are looking to film mainly in the Rockland County, NY area starting in late May, if all goes well. The film takes place at the beginning of summertime. It is a nice mix of interior and exterior scenes, as well as time of day, which covers basically the whole clock.

The Impact

This film has some content that may be considered controversial, but I believe makes some very strong and realistic statements about our society. The story touches on issues such as political correctness, social hypocrisy, double standards, sexism, racial stereotypes, female homosexuality, social and physical disability,  caring for a terminally ill parent at a young age, religious extremism, and the embittered environment of a retail store under the umbrella of a large, seemingly "big bad corporation". Yes this seems to cover quite a bit of territory, but these characters are fixed in the "real world" with the real world's myriad of problems. Although this is an ensemble piece, the crux of this story is two women, one with a troubled past and present, the other with a troubled present and possible future, who, in their personal worlds of turmoil, still desperately desire to connect and to grow. The beauty of this script is that it says out loud what so many of us often are thinking, but never dare to say out loud, in fear of judgment or consequence. Most of the characters in the script interweave with one another. However, it happens unbeknownst to them at first. In closing, this is most definitely a "people's film". It stands up for the individual, even in circumstances where they may not always do the right thing. It punches the fact that we are all human and none of us wears a hat that is all white or all black.
