Synopsis:

youtube trailer link in the media section.

Explore the history and understanding of the subculture of boys/men raised as girls in the Kingdom of Tonga. A Fakaleiti is born a male child who decides, or is chosen by his family, to dress and behave as a girl. Traditional believe says this occurs when a family may have only male children and deem it necessary to teach one of the boys cooking, cleaning, weaving, sewing – chores associated with a daughter – thus behaving as if a girl. Homosexuality is sometimes the motivation, but not always. Looked on with fascination and disdain, Fakaleitis are a unique, yet vital part of Tongan culture = Summer of ‘08 – Fakaleitis prepare for the new King’s Coronation and the 15th Miss Galaxy Pageant.

Hello Contributor Friends. As you can see I did not reach my goal of $4000 in 45 days but am very grateful for the amount raised. I please ask that you reinstate your generous gift and I will lower the goal to a more reasonable amount. Your funds will secure the video equipment for the shooting beginning July 15th in Tonga. Malo 'Aupito (thank you) again! Brian
